Another Peeve

Inspired by Rhonda, who wrote about her OCD-ish tendencies, I'm going to tell you about one of mine. I cannot stand going into places of business and seeing workers looking too "casual." On Saturday morning, in the checkout line at the grocery store, I saw one such example, and it bugged me so much, I had to go directly to the manager to complain.

First, I have to tell you that I am not always a public narc. If I see you (as an employee) doing something great, I will be the first one to tell you that you are amazingly wonderful, or I will take the time to call your boss when I get home and tell her/him. If you were a crab to me, unprofessional, or lazy, I'll probably just blog about it; I don't always take action. This time, however, I had no choice.

A teenage kid (a bagger, I guess, though he wasn't doing anything resembling work) was sauntering across front of the store with his black uniform pants belted down around his thighs. His casual dress went perfectly with his sloppy posture and cocky facial expression. "At least his lovely, bright green uniform shirt is tucked in," I thought to myself. However, when he turned around to walk the other direction, I was assaulted by a sight that nearly made me gag; his shirt was tucked in alright--tucked inside the crack of his butt! Yes! He was walking with his pants belted just below his rear end, his shirt tucked in the whole length of his clearly underwear-less butt and showing no signs of retreating!

With my son Kyle rolling his eyes and looking for an escape route, I marched over the a manager and said, "The way that kid over there is wearing his pants is disgusting. I hope that's not acceptable around here, because that is way over the top." The kid had walked out of sight, so the manager said, "Oh. I'll talk to him. Thanks." He'd better, because if I have to go back in there and see that again, I might reconsider my shopping habits. YUCK!

  1. Oh my god... That's funny. And gross.

I, too, sometimes am compelled to speak up about certain things. I mean, a shirt tucked into a butt crack? That is so nasty.

    You go girl.

  2. like Monk we need to set certain standards of living. These might seem high for some but they are normal and good to most. :)

I still have my Melody Beattie book; Beyond Co-Dependency.
I didn't know you were an ex co-depender/OCDer like myself
    ;)

  4. The kids/punks here do this alot.
I just want to go over and pull their pants down!
If Rachael were to date a boy with his panties at his knees, I'd kill him.
    Dumb Ass.

  5. My two boys will always make a comment about when people have their underwear showing. I think their brains would've exploded if they saw that kid's butt crack! (oh, the blog fodder).

I would probably have mentioned that to the manager as well. Ick.

Thanks for stopping by my blog BTW.

You are so right about parents now days trying to be friends, instead of parenting and being a role model.

What's worse (but not by much)is when you see these mom's who try and dress like their daughters...EW!
