How we paid our kid back for leaving us...

Last night, Mark and I went out for a drink to meet the folks who are taking Kyle with them on the dream vacation. (I figured we'd need a description of them if they decide to kidnap him.) Kyle waited at home, packing and dreaming of beaches and amusement parks. After an hour or so, we concluded they were decent enough people to take our kid away from us for a little while, so we gave our blesssing. However, on the way home, Mark decided to mess with Kyle.

When we walked into the house, I avoided Kyle's glance (I can't lie, so I didn't want him to see my face!). Mark sat down next to him in the livingroom and with a serious face and somber tone said,

"I would be remiss as a parent if I let you go anywhere with that guy. I'm sorry."

Then he stood, pausing just long enough for Kyle's heart to start pounding and his mind to race. I didn't get to see Kyle's face at that moment, but Mark later put it this way: "You know how you hear about people losing all color in their faces when they're in shock? It was just like that; he turned ashen."

"Just kidding," he added and jumped out of the way to escape the expected (and delivered) assault.

Priceless. (Wish I had that one on video.)
