It's been a crazy, crazy multitasking weekend. Tonight is a perfect snapshot--watching football (grrrr), helping cook supper, writing out Christmas cards, getting rid of a virus on my laptop,
and making Norwegian krumkake. I wrote a whole post about it last year (with the recipe) on
Mrs.4444 Cooks called
When Kaka Means Yummy, so I'll stick to the highlights here.
Krumkake in pictures.....
It didn't start out well. (That's two
cups of flour I dumped all over the counter.)

I mixed up the batter on Saturday morning and started cooking Sunday evening. Here's what they look like...

Notice I didn't say what they're
supposed to look like, because I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be perfectly round and have no jagged edges, but that's just not how I roll, and I have it on excellent authority that crooked tastes
better.
Of course, my helper is always nearby....

Cooper just
loves krumkake (and yes, and burnt-anything, and dead animals, and cat turds, but I'm pretty sure he likes krumkake the most.)
The best part of tonight, though, was that after two weeks or more, my friend Dawn and I got to talk on the phone for about ten minutes. It was great to hear her voice again (she lives nearby, but we just can't seem to find the time to get together!) Normally, while talking on the phone at home, I get a lot accomplished (dishes, laundry, etc.) but tonight, it didn't go so well...

Dawn, let's try to get together over the holidays, okay?
Awww. Your helper looks so sweet and innocent! And-- sorry about the burnt yummies. :0 If it makes you feel any better, I burnt half of David's sandwich today, so I ripped off that piece of bread and got another one!
ReplyDeleteI'll take one Cooper, please.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that dog!!
hmmm, 2 cups of flour? did the pup help you clean??? :-)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't done my baking. I guess that's getting done Wednesday night.
ReplyDeleteI did recruit Josh to wrap the present though....Oy!
My dog like to help in the kitchen as well. :)
ReplyDeleteCooper is so cute! I always have a dog or four hovering at my feet when I cook too.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be one of the most adorable pictures of Cooper ever!!
ReplyDeleteElla Numera Dos made Krumkakke for Thanksgiving. I've spent the last 2 days baking sandbakkels (130, at last count) and traditional sugar cookies, too (lost count on those). And as for the Packers? I don't wanna talk about it...the saving grace is that Superintendent Man has canceled school for the rest of 2009, due to snow!
ReplyDeleteI saw that game. What a heart breaker at the end as time expired.
ReplyDeleteNow who cares what they look like. Only gourmet chefs in fancy restaurants. It's how they taste that counts.
Awwww Cooper is such a cutie that you could just look at him while eating your Krumkake and then you have a perfect eating experience!!
ReplyDeleteI dumped about 3c. of sugar on my dining room carpet while I was baking last week, it was special.
ReplyDeleteI have never had Krumkake so I will take a piece anyway I can get it, even if I have to fight the dog for it.
I am stopping over from Matty Thoughts to say Merry Christmas! :)
I second your "grrr" about football yesterday. We were not a happy household after that finish. :(
ReplyDeleteThe Krumkake looks delicious...and Cooper looks adorable!
Cooper is SOOO cute! My dog Jesse loves when I cook, ecspecially Chex mix, since my pan is too small and the stirring is a mess. He hears the oven open and comes running:)
ReplyDeleteawww Cooper is adorable even if he eats turd!
ReplyDeleteWow, I got tired just reading your post. Hope you get some rest soon...
ReplyDeleteWow, I got tired just reading your post. Hope you get some rest soon...
ReplyDeleteomg, you are cracking me up about the dog and what he likes LOLOLOL.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was tellin me about these Swedish desserts her Grandma, Hedwig, made around Christmas. She said they were wonderful. And I think they all started with the letter K too!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I shouldn't have rubbed it in.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that recipe took a LOT of eggs, too. Wow! They look good, and I hope you're enjoying your two weeks off :)
Why do dogs always look so cute when they're begging? Cooper and my rottweiler, Hannah, both have the expression down to a tee! The cakes look yummy, I can see why he was begging for some.
ReplyDeletePerfection is over-rated. Jagged is so PUNK ROCK!
ReplyDeleteI'll take one Cooper, please.
