1-2-3- Hernia?

Anyone who is a boy, has been a boy, or knows any is aware of a stage in their adolescence during which they walk around admiring their muscles and asking you to feel them. Loud, grunting noises can be heard from the basement or garage, as they power-lift whatever they're able to find. They also like to test their muscles out on siblings, pets, and of course, their friends. Being able to pin a little sister to the ground or wrangle a dog to submission makes them feel strong, even powerful. They also like to leap over furniture and do chin-ups on door frames; anything to test their manliness.

There comes a time in every boy's life, though, when sisters, dogs, and doorways don't cut it for them; they long for a bigger person to wrestle with; someone who'll give them a little more of a challenge. Of course, their dads will wrestle with them, but a man and a boy aren't a fair match. Unfortunately for me, an adolescent boy and his mother are apparently a perfect match, because one day a couple of years ago, Kyle decided I should wrestle with him.

I am smiling as I type this, because I was on to his game immediately. Having four older brothers does that to a girl; you kind of get tired of being physically dominated and just submit. Futilely working myself into a sweat and breaking blood vessels in my eyes to escape is not my idea of a good time, so I've learned that if you don't give them a fight, they eventually tire of you and leave you alone. After several minutes of Kyle trying to "pin" my limp arms to the floor, he decided to pick me up and "throw" me onto the couch.

As you'll see in this video, it was not as easy as he thought it would be...

(For the record, I would have cut the video off at 25 seconds but didn't know how!)

  1. I need to remember that. I must practice playing possum because my 2yr old princess already gives me a run for my money. She Karate chopped me in the both at Outback!

  2. Yup! I grew up with 2 older brothers who would practice their wrestling moves out on me. I was a goner until I discovered my secret weapon: Nails!!

  6. I think this is hilarious, because I do wrestle my son! I love wrestling, but probably because I am the oldest of five. I have three brothers. We certainly did our share of wrestling with them! I hate being beaten, so, I learned to win! I should also add that I am still bigger than my son!

  8. HIlarious! Just go limp... a sack of 'taters' is not so easy to lift.

  9. ah yes, the "let me pick you up" stage. My son is so skinny and still a little bit shorter that I can swirl him around. He finds it amusing and a little dismaying. Mom can still hoist him off the ground (not for long, though)

That ranks right up there with beating them in video games.

  12. Good thing the couch was there, I'm thinking you'd have been dropped.

I was too skinny a kid to be muscular. I was usually the one picked up and dropped. maybe THATS why I'm the way I am? Hee hee hee hoo hoo hoo!

  15. Momisodes, I can TOTALLY relate! I hated it when my parents would go out for the night and no sooner would the door slam shut than one of my brothers would yell, "All-Star-WRESTLING!"

Happy to give you all a chuckle :)

  17. Somehow... I just don't see Mister Man doing this as a teenager. However, I also see myself being surprised by teenagers regularly ;)

Love the video. His muscles may have failed him then, but I bet they wouldn't fail him now. REMATCH!

  20. haha funny. Did you really break blood vessels in your eyes? I used to throw my mom across the room, but I never managed to break anything except for the blood vessels in my eyes. lol just kidding.

  22. I had three younger brothers, but ignored them. So I didn't remember this stage. Now my son is in it. However, in both cases, I "taught" them early on not to mess with me. So even though my brothers and son are at least a half a foot taller than me, they are still frightened of me.

  24. That is so funny! Tanner can pretty much kick my but at almost 10 years old. He decided he can lift me now and had to show everyone at the bus stop. He did drop me once on the living room floor. Boys are so much fun:)
