The Colorful Massage (Audio!)

I'm so excited--I figured out how to record myself reading posts aloud as part as a gift for the then-secret Christmas gift for Mary Ellen. (She had gone back to a job and missed reading blogs, so I recorded a bunch for her (mine and others). I burned a CD for her so that she could listen to the posts during her commute to and from work. How cool is that?! She loved it, of course.

So, I still have the recordings, and I've decided to find a way to post some of them. This is my first try. I used my sister Michelle's now-defunct blog post, The Colorful Massage, which was pretty funny. I think you'll enjoy it.

If this works out, I just might attach an audio recording to all of my future posts. The possibilities are endless, and yes, I know this is a potentially money-making idea, but I know I'd have no idea how to market it, so if you decided to take my/Mary Ellen's idea and run with it, please PLEASE remember us when you are rich and famous. THANKS.

Here you go....Enjoy! Click here to listen to The Colorful Massage!

P.S. If you look over in the sidebar, you'll see a few more audio posts from the past. The "Yes, Mrs. Smith, There Is a Santa Claus" is one of my favorite posts, from Dawn (at Bee and Rose) She gave permission for me to post it here. I'll add more when I get time (if anyone's interested.) Any special requests?

  1. This is a very cool idea. And what a gift of love and service to another. My mom read the entire Harry Potter series for my oldest son. Then she sent it to my grandmother (who is blind, but loves to listen to books).

Too bad I can't have your read my Google Reader, so I can be "reading blogs" while I'm working out. But then we'd have to figure out how I can comment.

  2. I'm so jealous you little techno diva, you! I'm just excited when I get a stinkin' link to work. Heck, I thought I'm made it big time when I sat up a slide~show. Woohoo!

You have a great day! I'm sliddin' into town today. Ya, know a chick can't let six inches of snow cancel a hair appointment. :o)

  3. That is great! I remember the post. But having it read to me while i worked was great!

Plus you have a good speaking voice.

If i send you some Qualification Documents, can you read them to me?

  4. Box.net is the bomb. I use it for my musical posts. Cool idea.

  5. I'm going to have to look into box.net - for a while i was looking at Utterli - but it turned out to be too easy to mix up stuff and I let that one go. Finding 'personal' audio files posted on your blog can be embarrassing. Not pervy personal - just personal. FYI. Although ...

  7. After listening to this...I am laughing so hard! This frees me from ever feeling jealous of people who go to spas and get massages....now what I know just how stressful it really is!

  11. Barb, your ability to come up with nifty ideas knows no bounds. This was a perfect gift for someone who doesn't have the time to read blogs. It's also very unique as I don't think anyone else has ever done it before. I think you are onto something here.

  13. Back in the day I recorded "How to Be Your Own Best Friend" on cassette tape for my grandmother. It was agonizing. I don't have the voice for it. As long as the information gets across it's okay I guess. On the other hand, you have a great speaking voice, and what a great gift idea. I'm not technical enough to do it, myself. My wife just showed me which button turns the computer on and off. Just kidding...sorta. Nice post.

I feel very honored to be included in your audio posts. My husband sends his thanks to you as well. You really are a spectacular soul, my friend! Again, my heart is deeply touched by your generous spirit!

    hugs to you!

  15. Dawn-- Aww...that's awesome. I'm so glad to hear that. I had no idea how you would feel, hearing someone you don't know reading your story; I'm honored that you trusted me with it :)

    Thanks, GL.

Connie-You should have your daughter guest post for you, or maybe you could do an interview!

    Thanks, Matty!

Tracie, I'm happy to have given you a good laugh today. Well, Michelle and I, that is... :)

Kazzy-Where do you think I got the idea? Thanks!

LCeel-Let me know if you need any help.

Oscar-Sure, send them on over...not. I'd be happy to read anything ELSE for you, haha.

Nezzy-I hope you are gorgeous, warm, and dry :) (some parts easier than others, no, haha!)

  17. Well, crud. I really intended to do this- like I told you I would. And I talked to my husband about it and he started to set up recording stuff for me. And then... I dunno what happened!

But you did a great thing.

And that post from Bee and Rose... so, so touching and moving and such a great reminder of what's important.
