Facebook FYI

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that, using the Facebook Networked Blogs "Followers" widget on people's blogs, anyone can click on your photo and be transported directly to your Facebook profile (and your real name?) For the sake of privacy, I have Un-Followed (in Facebook) the Networked Blogs that were previously on my list. However, I am still a "Fan," and once I figure out how to open a FB account for Mrs.4444, I will happily Follow again.

  1. You know, I have not fb linked to much of anyone in the blog world, not because the ones I choose to have contact with matter, but like you said, the ones who can just click themselves right into my world, without me wanting them to, makes me a little nervous!

You probably made the right choice!

  2. I don't Facebook even though my kids call me crazy 'cause in their words the whole dang family is on facebook!

  3. I initially had FB on my blog--and twitter...but got rid of them both. You know what I have seen, though--it bloggers have set up "fan" pages---which alerts them on FB that the blog has been updated. Maybe look into that!!!

  4. For that exact reason, I never put my facebook on my blog. I usually email individuals I've become close to through blogging and let them know that if they want to add me, they can.. and then reveal my full name. It's just the safer option.

  6. Since I use my real name on my blog anyhow, I don't think it really matters.

  7. FB did change their privacy settings so you can make yourself only 'available' to friends you've already approved. At least that's how I read it...but I think I'll be checking further into that... :)

You can do a Fan Page which is more cut-and-dry and less 'personal' - that'd probably be the best way to go for Mrs. 4444's. :)

  8. I'm with ya... which is why I keep that FB VERY separate from and not linked to the blog. And my privacy settings on FB are wayyy high. Yikes!

  9. My FB profile is accessible only by friends I've approved. I have blog friends and IRL friends on there, and if someone requests to friend me but I don't know who they are or don't want to give them access, I just ignore.

  10. I know, Melisa, but clicking on your pic at least gives your real name, and that I don't like. It's not a big deal to just not put the widget up here. I just wanted to point it out to others, who might want more privacy.

  11. I am only known as Sarah Mightymom on facebook

you have have to put "fours" as your last name rather than 4444. Just put Mrs as your first name and voila! privacy.

Plus, I can delete all fb comments where family acidentally mentions my kids by name.
I've had my blog listed on fb for awhile so I've always been very careful about hiding my identity.

  13. MM, I tried that. FB wouldn't recognize "Fours" as a name :(

  14. I think it will recognize Mrs. 4444 if you go to this link to set up the fan page...

  15. I think that's actually how I found you on FB. That's why my last name is "Heartfull". I find the whole FB thing kinda creepy with bloggy people on there, etc....that's why I do that. Try other things like Kissin or some other things from your blog. I know another blogger whose last name is Bloggymommy or something like that.

  16. I wanted to do a fb page for my blog, but they wouldn't recognize "From" as a first name (From Tracie) so that was frustrating. I might do a fan page (they don't care what you name those)

I don't necessarily want everyone that I know in real life (or on fb for that matter) to read my blog, so that is also an issue......

The internet...gotta love it. Even when it drives you crazy! :)

  17. I stay away from Facebook. Too open.

actually have just enough time to juggle 2 blogs and read others.
