Friday Fragments, Episode #106

I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off today, so if you've come for bits and pieces of my mind, you've come to the right place! [Click here to find out what this fragging business is all about!] Here I go!

So excited! I've signed up to help with a local Extreme Make-Over Home Edition home build! Some day soon, someone in the Green Bay/Appleton area is going to get a knock on their door have have their lives changed forever, and I'm going to be a part of it!

Speaking of knocks on the door, the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol has notified me that someone with my initials, in my zipcode, is the winner this month, and I am STOKED!  I should buy something from them, just to seal the deal, right?

The mammogram appointment lady called to pre-register me. We had a series of interactions that were pretty dry (name, address, insurance info, etc.) Finally, as we were wrapping thing up, she asked, "Do you have any questions?" I replied, "So, I should leave my nipple rings at home, then?" Of course, I did not give her time to get uncomfortable before admitting I was only kidding. She LHAO and said, "That was the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life!"

Speaking of mammograms, I think that instead of just feeling you up and sending you on your way, they should at least give you a free deodorant sample for the road. [For your mammogram virgins out there, you are not allowed to wear deodorant during a mammogram.]  Really; it's the least they could do, don't you agree?

Mom and I are Draeger descendants, and our bi-annual reunion is this weekend, so once again, I am taking off for the weekend! I'll schedule the Saturday Sampling post automatically, (Friday night, as usual). By the way, last week, a handful of people linked up other people's posts, and I loved it!  It's always great to read excellent writing and make new friends in the process. Thanks for making SS an great resource for quality posts! I haven't even had time to read last week's yet, but I'm really happy about having a place to catch up when thing settle down around her.

I used the timer on my camera for a shot or two last weekend on our Michigan trip. That photo there--on the right, in my header? That one shows how cooperative Mr.4444 was feeling on Day 3.

For the first time in three years, I have not only fallen insanely behind in replying to comments, but I've even fallen behind in reading some of them. This week, I've had some time to catch up, but I have a confession to make--If you do not have your email in your profile, making it inconvenient to reply to you via email, I did not go searching for it. So, if you didn't hear from me this week and that's the reason, you might want to fix that, since I'm sure it affects everyone who would like to communicate with you. Let me know if you need help adding your email address to your blog or profile page.

Do you go back to every blog post you've commented on, over and over again, to see if the blogger replied to you? If so, then you have too much time on your hands, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. (Either that, or you only read a few blogs.) If inspired, I will comment within the comments, but I usually reply via email, since I know most people don't stalk my comments looking for replies.  I still have 100 comments in my email box to reply to, so thank you for your patience :)

I've gained 10-15 pounds since I started sitting on my ass all day blogging. This week, inspired by a commitment to go hiking out west with Kyle next summer (a mom-son trip),  I've buckled down and started eating like a sane person, as well as excercising. I'm using Spark People to keep track of calories and exercise goals, and so far this week, I've met or exceeded them every day. Yesterday, I dusted off my bike for the second time all summer and rode 19 miles! (which explains why I haven't left the couch today.)

Thankfully, we are super organized as a reunion planning committee, and we have the whole schedule nicely laid out for us. We've rented out a YMCA day camp, which is a perfect place for our huge family. Here are some schedule highlights of the upcoming weekend (in case you're interested.) [Email me if you're planning your own reunion and would like a copy of our detailed write-up.]

*Friday-Arrive, hug, kiss, yuck it up a little.

*Saturday-Make Personalized Omelets for a Crowd for breakfast, hang out/eat/hang out/eat, play Family Games!, swim, eat/hang out, then settle in for the talent show, of which my mom is the emcee. (I know, you so want to be there! Trust me--It's something to see!) End it all with a campfire singalong, complete with s'mores. Fall into a food coma and hope you hit the bed army cot, instead of the floor.

Sunday-eat, kiss, hug, say good-bye

Why, yes, I do have laundry and packing to do, thank you. And no, as a matter of fact, I haven't started planning our meals for the weekend or shopping for the ingredients.  I can take a hint! I'm going! I'm going!

Link up your FRIDAY FRAGMENTS post here [all others will be prosecuted, castrated, hung by their eyeballs deleted, sorry.] And please stop by at least a few other fragmenters; they're a lot of fun :)

  2. I posted my link but the post won't be up til tomorrow morning. Going to be a BUSY day at work so I'm trying to get ahead of the game!

Dear me! You're in rare form today! Good luck with the Prize Patrol! There was a mammogram in my post too! And I got antiperspirant in my left eye this morning. It's still painfully dry but it probably smells good! :)

  4. What an honor to be a part of Extreme Makover. I cry at every single one! Have a great time building a new house!

I did a post on a small lunch and coffee drive through that Extreme Makeover did a few years ago. See http://noexcuses318.blogspot.com/2010/02/sundays-in-my-city-coffee-time.html for some background info.

Have a great bonding this weekend!

  5. I'm laughing that the gal on the phone thought you having nipple rings might be the funniest thing she's heard. Just wait until the 20-somethings we've had on OB lately make it to the mammogram stage. Yikes!!!

Good for you!! I am going to go check out Spark People. I need help!!

  6. And by the way, I love love love the pictures in your header!!!!!

  7. Back in December when my doctor told me I had to start watching my weight, sugar issues, cholesterol issues too, because my neighbor two doors down had told me about the Spark site, I signed in there. I confess I really haven't been that faithful to the site or to calorie counting and such but that's where I got the idea to start walking my dog for my exercise program. And it's worked well for me having lost 20 pounds -but gained 6 since having the surgery last week. (Go figure, huh?) Anyway, 19 miles on the bike is wild, crazy and I marvel at anyone being able to do that!

  8. Wow, you could be the big winner? Sounds like a new heating system is in order. And if it's real big money, just remember that I am your best friend in all the whole wide world. Just sayin'.

It's just like you to be involved in helping other people. Bravo!

I don't reply to every comment I receive Barb. It's just too time consuming, and I don't expect you to either. I used to, and found that I just couldn't keep up with posting, reading, commenting, AND responding to comments. And I don't like going back to a post to see if someone replied there. I prefer the email method. It's much easier and for the life of me, I don't know why everyone doesn't just do it that way.

And oh yeah....slow down......you're making me dizzy.

  9. How exciting about the Extreme Home Makeover! We went out just to watch one in our town and then went back for the "move that bus" taping (you could see us if you looked FAST! lol). It was a LOT of fun.
I don't ever go back to a comment to see if the poster commented to me. I am forever behind in my blog reading, so the last thing I have time for is to go back over and over!
    Have fun at the reunion!

  10. now see, they make this thing call email alerts, you click the little box and all followup comments to the post go straight to your email....then you DON'T have to keep going back to see if the owner of the blog was nice enough to respond.

and you talking about mammograms and losing weight in the same post reminded me of HOW you said once that you judge the need to lose weight...and it wasn't with a scale teeheehee...... :-)

have you considered, walking/biking across America? it's a waaay cool idea!

  11. I love Spark people, it's a great tool :)
I am just slightly jealous of you getting to help with HM Extreme, I love that show and would love to be able to help a family.
    Great new header.

  12. I didn´t do a FF today, but WOW, you have a lot going on!
Great tip for those bloggers who don´t have their email linked to their profile! That´s a mayor pet peeve of mine. Too often I´d like to answer the question they´ve asked, but when I see I would have to go searching for their email, I don´t.
Have a wonderful time at you re-union! Sounds like it´s all planned.

  13. The Extreme Makeover Home Edition sounds like a win-win for all. I do like it when deserving people get that kind of humongous help. I am excited for you to be part of it and for you to tell us all about it when it is over.

  16. It was exciting to watch a local house in the Extreme Makeover. We walked up there almost every day. While it's amazing to watch on TV, it's totally dumbfounding to see in real life. It would be nice to see all houses built with such speed and efficiency.

As for comments, if I want to read responses to my comment I make sure I click the option for "email follow up" It's crazy the number of comments some people receive. I have no idea how people keep up with that type of traffic!

  17. I once was almost a winner for publishers clearing house too! It was pretty exciting..I waited and waited! Still waiting! Love your nipple ring comment too funny! I agree about the deo at Mammogram appointments. You look great in your header picture 10/15 pounds hello where? But moving more and blogging less is something I should think about doing! Have a wonderful weekend.

  18. Yay you for a great start on getting fit...more fit :o) I am sure that you will inspire many to do the same! Oh and the nipple ring comment was hilarious!! LMAO!!! I STINK the deodorant idea is great too (Mom kinda joke). Have a happy day Sis and have a blast at the reunion! XOXOX all alround! See you later this month!!!!

  19. The family reunion thing sounds absolutely fabulous, I'm sure everyone will have a wonderful time!

The new header is gorgeous, I love that shot of the rocks in the water :-)

  20. I hope you win! I hope you win! Either th extreme makeover OR the publishers clearing house or BOTH!

Your "schedule" for the family reunion sounds like my kind of fun -eating and hanging out! I love it! Have fun!

  21. I love Extreme Makeover! They did one in my daughter's neighborhood a few years ago and she said it was crazy chaos and so rewarding.
I hate mammograms. It had to be a man that invented that machine. Why can't it be just like an MRI thing without the MRI (because those are really pretty awful too).
I hope you have some fun at your family reunion; we had ours back in June..before all the drama!
    Have a great weekend!

  22. Very exciting news about the Home Extreme Makeover.

Your mammogram story reminded me of a recent interaction. I am pregnant and I was scheduling an amnio. When speaking to the genetics counselor she asked me if the reason I had one during my previous pregnancy was due to my age and I said, "Yes, but I also thought I would get a free pedicure while I was there." The phone was silent until I said, "I'm just kidding" then she started laughing hysterically.

  23. Barb, you are so witty, I love it:) Nice to see you and Kendall at Farmers Market. I would sooo love to be at your reunion, are you doing Wimper and Whine? lol oh, maybe wimper and WINE and WINE.....lol Have a great time!!!!Lisa

  25. They did a makeover house here right down from where I work and it was crazy and awesome and the people really deserved it. Also I like the pics on the header!

  26. Lovin the new pictures! So you're going to meet Ty? Your reunion sounds like lots more fun than the ones I attend!

  27. I need to schedule my boob press. Thanks for the reminder! xo

  28. You crack me up girl. I sure hate to burst your bubble but the prize patrol is headed to our town to someone with My initials. Sorry, but I WILL keep my furnace promise.

No I do not go back to all the blogs and check for replies, isn't it just as easy to pop over to that person's blog?

God bless and have a fun weekend. Sounds like you've planned it full-up. We're off to Branson to take that getaway we were goin' to have in Jan. Stuff happens...just sayin'............

  34. Wow! That's awesome that you get to help with a build!! You'll, of course, have to tell us all about it!

You're too funny! Glad the lady had a sense of humor!

I've never had a mammo. Interesting that you can't wear deodorant.

Your reunion sounds like it's going to be pretty fun! And busy!

I'm always behind on comments / blog hopping. Don't feel too badly. ;0P

AMEN on the email linked to the blog thing. Drives me bonkers!

Congrats on your exercise / eating this week!!

    Have a great weekend!!

  35. Yeah, I think I just totally messed up my link in the linky. Heh. *sigh* It's been such a long week. So maybe when you get that visit from the prize patrol and win elevnty-gazillion dollars, you could like, send me on a vacation... without kids... on a deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific? Well, I can dream, right?

(Gonna go re-do that linky now...heh.)

  36. SO funny about the nipple rings! You probably made her day!
I 've been just as bad with reading blogs lately...I just can't get back in the groove of school & blogs!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I always wear my nipple rings to my mammogram appointments. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I laughed out loud at the nipple rings question. At least you are able to find your sense of humor about getting "squished", by choice.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What a week! The Makeover gig is so stinking exciting!! I love the way you jump in with both feet and get so involved in great projects. Way to inspire!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. That is very fun about the Extreme Home Makeover thing. Be sure to tell us when your episode will be on!

I didn't know you couldn't wear deodorant to a mammogram!

    ReplyDelete
  41. At the mammogram center that I go to they DO give you deodorant! It is on a packaged wipe.

  42. You have a lot of really fantastic things going on! SO excited about home makeover. That is just as awesome as can be!
