A little while ago, I sang the praises of these...
and my bloggy buddy, Mim (of Mim's Muddle) lamented that they didn't sell them where she lives
(in Australia), so I kindly sent a bag to her.
Today, I received a couple of Australian treats from Mim!
According to her wildly-popular Facebook post, the TimTams were "self-explanatory,"
and Mim was right-- Kendall and I shared one, and it was delicious!
I'm saving the rest to try with coffee, per the instructions touted in the FB post.
But this?
I'm scared!!!
She said to wait to try it until I read her promised "Tutorial."
Hmm...
Should I wait?
I hear it makes men chunder. :-)
ReplyDeletewhat exactly is vegemite? I have heard of it but don't know what it is.
ReplyDeleteArrgh! I haven't done the tutorial post! Ok, if you can't wait the short version is: fresh white crusty bread or thick toast, a generous spread of real butter and the merest scraping of Vegemite. There are other ways, some not for the faint of heart (or the beginner Vegemite eater), but fresh white bread and butter is the best accompaniment!
ReplyDeleteIt's VERY salty and definitely an acquired taste. We start 'em young down here, vegemite toast is one of the first things I fed all my kids once they'd progressed beyond purees and that's pretty much the norm for Australian kids.
Blegh, run for your life!!!
ReplyDeleteWait...a very long time. In college, we had several girls in our dorm from New Zealand. They always brought it with them to meals.I honestly tried to like it, but oh my word it is...very different. >blech<
ReplyDeleteI dont know what it is, but now, I'm just singing "Men Without Hats" song - I come from a land down under...
ReplyDeleteyuck.
ReplyDeletebut those Cheetos are amazing!
MUB-You cracked me up!! So great to hear from you :)
ReplyDeleteMimbles-Thanks VERY much for the suggestions. I will definitely try it. Kendall asked me to please wait until she's there--She wants to see my face when I taste it!
Katharine's advice is the best, Wait a LONG time. It's disgusting no matter how you eat that stuff.
ReplyDeleteit's funny, I just had a thin mints vs tim tams discussion on twitter yesterday:)
Rebecca Jo - listen to Colin Hay's acoustic versions of the old stuff, so much better.
ReplyDeletehe did one for a scrubs episode, following JD around, it was really funny.
I want to see your face! Give Kendall a video camera!
ReplyDeletePlease, please have Mr. 4444 take your picture when you try vegemite. We all want to be there!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's the treat Nutella is.
For 20 years I thought Vegemite was SWEET! I'm heartbroken to learn it's not and that it is an acquired taste. They forgot to sing about that part, didn't they?
ReplyDeleteI never heard of those things. I'll sit back and let you tell us how it is.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have never heard of either one but from what I read here we MUST have pictures so wait, baby...wait!! Please :o)
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day girl!!!
the tim-tam slam is divine! you absolutely have to try it. =D
ReplyDeleteas for vegemite, we do the marmite here and it's close. it's really good (i think) spread thinly on toast, and then with cheese melted on top. yum.
I immediately thought of that old Men Without Hats song!
ReplyDeleteI'd wait as long as possible to eat that!
ReplyDeleteMen at Work - "Down Under" from the 80's I believe. "He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich" Enjoy, sister!
ReplyDeleteI worked with an Aussie once (here in the states) and he really missed his vegemite.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Kraft makes it.
I would be as scared as you!! Me, I'd definitely wait...but you may just be more daring than me..
ReplyDelete"She just smiled and gave me a Vegimite sandwich..."
ReplyDeleteOh my. I didn't know it was a real thing. Hope you're vlogging it. ;)
I would certainly be scared! Do you spread it on veggies? Is it made of veggies?
ReplyDeleteps I have missed reading you lately. Took a tiny bloggy break to get my son married off.
I thought Vegemite was sweet, too! Now I don't know what to think! What IS it, anyway? And will it by any chance get rid of the ants in my house? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! But did you know Pepperidge Farms has a Tim Tam cookie now?? :) A chocolate and a caramel version. Chocolate is better. I found them at Target.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about food that requires a tutorial. Did you try it yet?
ReplyDeleteBut the cookies look wonderful! How sweet of y'all to have little fun food exchange.
CONCENTRATED yeast extract???!!!
ReplyDeletewell, I don't guess you really have to wait....but first I gotta ask....
how BIG a loaf of bread were you planning to make????
LOL I should send Vegemite to people more often, this is fun :-)
ReplyDeleteI might just do that! A blog giveaway, Vegemite for my amusement and something people might actually want so as to bribe them into playing guinea-pig. Mwhahahahahaha :-)
I'm scared of vegemite, too. There must be a reason they don't sell it here.... Good Luck! I'll be awaiting the video.
