In reading class today, we were teaching a lesson about Informational Text in the context of recipes. Of course, we covered the risks of not reading the directions, misreading ingredient amounts, etc. To illustrate the point, I shared my Lemon Meringue Pie story, and many students had stories of their own to share about disastrous meals at their houses, but this one took the cake:
"One day, my mom was making supper, when she went outside to yell at my brother, and she burned our house down!"
Kind of puts my pie debacle on par with forgetting to butter the toast. Just call me Rachel Ray!
Wow! Now THAT'S a consequence!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that does take the take.
ReplyDeleteLast spring one of middle son's soccer teammates' house caught on fire while the family was making tacos. After the next game, when the boys were on the bus, the boy (whose house caught on fire) said, "Hey, who wants to come over for tacos? Oh, wait."
ReplyDeleteAt least they can laugh about it.
"Out of the mouths of babes..." Don't you just love it?
ReplyDeleteCute story!
ReplyDeletehee hee! Love what kids say .....there are no secrets! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThere's a book in these stories somewhere. Keep them together somewhere so that you can go back to them. And also to go back for a laugh. I love what these kids say!
ReplyDelete:)
Rachel Ray, indeed! That story trumps all cooking debacles I've made.
ReplyDeleteUm, yeah, that would be a tough story to beat!!
ReplyDeleteOK, that has to top any of the stories of kitchen fiascoes we've come up with.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day sweetie!!! :o)
mistakes in the kitchen can be very bad sometimes.
ReplyDeleteOh Brothers.... :)
ReplyDeleteI will admit that I don't feel nearly as bad now about my numerous kitchen flub ups!
OH my... I couldn't help by laugh!!! Too funny... I hope he just meant something caught fire and not that the entire house burned down. Yikes!
