Friday Fragments, Episode #119

In honor of my laptop apparently being on its last leg (think 10-20 seconds to get a click to execute), I'm keeping this short tonight.  It's time to link up our randomness! [click on the Friday Fragments tab above for more information about FF.]

Here's one of my favorite pics of late. It's a sweet little one-year-old neighborhood cutie pie on the loose.  If this doesn't say a thousand words, I don't know what does....

As mentioned above, my laptop is suddenly running s l o w  a s  m o l a s s e s....It's annoying.

Difference Makers--I have some mixed feelings about it:

*related to the fact that I'm not getting paid to do it and it takes a lot of my time
*related to the fact that one of our members is extremely hyper (and loud) and at times drives me to the brink of insanity (I'm very noise sensitive, especially by 3pm, when I am also tired and hungry) Still, I love the kid!
*related to the grant application I just sent in--Should we even try to get a grant for our group, or would it be more impactful to keep proving that it's easy to make a difference without spending a dime?

However, after tonight (playing BINGO at a local nursing home), I am more than ever committed to our group. Making a difference in people's lives feels fantastic. We are having a blast!

Okay, okay...it's taken me 30 minutes to write this--I'm done fighting with my laptop. Let's have your FRIDAY FRAGMENTS! [FF posts only, please.] Have a great weekend!!!

  1. Computer troubles are so frustrating and to think how did we ever deal with dial up?
    That baby is adorable!
Loved catching up with your beautiful Mother.
You won and have still not sent me your address: doreenb8@verizon.net
    Have a fabulous week.
It does feel good to help others and it does make a difference.

  2. I have a dinosaur desktop computer that takes hours, it seems, to get from one page to another. I feel your pain. Sometimes it's as easy as getting a little more memory. I hope yours in an easy fix.

That little one sure is a cutie!

Continue to make a difference, but maybe get a few more folks to help you :)

  7. I know a geek or two. I'll send one over to look at your laptop!

Every year our school adopts a new slogan. This year it just happens to be "Be the Difference." I told my boss about your club, and she loved the idea!

    Have a great weekend!

  10. My computer is soooooo slow too. Not fun for a blogger, esp. one who's not around a lot lately.

Your neighbour is such an adorable guy!!!

  11. Well computer problems are no fun! I spend last Saturday night fixing my laptop. While I'm glad that I can do it myself, it's certainly not an enjoyable way to spend time!

It's funny how back when the internet was new it was standard for it to take over a minute to load pages. Now I start getting impatient at the 5-second mark!

  12. I love the group you've created at school! And I think you should skip the grants for right now- I think there is a huge lesson in finding ways to show kindness without any money behind it. 2 years ago, as a gift to my mom for Xmas, I practiced a daily random act of kindness- sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes free, sometimes costing money- and wrote them all down and shared them with her because she's the one who taught me to be giving. I blogged it, too: http://gratitude-n-giving.blogspot.com/

  14. I have a student who can give you a great deal on a smokey computer!

That little guy is cute. What's the secret to having cute babies? Wisconsin water?

Your Kyle sounds like a wonderful guy. You've done a brilliantly in the parenting department :)

Thanks for the picture of your mom. She can brighten my day just by taking a picture like that.

  15. Awwww, little one year old on the loose is a doll!!! How sweet is that???

Do you not get credit on career ladder for the extra hours ya spend with your students? It sounds like a terrific project...for the kiddos anyway! :o)

God bless and have an incredible weekend sweetie!!!

  16. Cute little guy. Looks like a future heart breaker.

I missed your difference makers post. I don't know how that happened. But anyway, I went over there and read it, and I love the concept. Without knowing more, I'm hesitant to offer advice, but perhaps you can solicit other adults to help out so that you're not the only one committing time to it.

Sounds like it's time for a new computer. Butter up the hubby.

  17. Doing volunteer work without spending money is a good thing, just think of the wonderful things you could accomplish with some cash. I'm so glad it is going well. :)

    You are inspiring!

  18. Oh...and PS -- I made the baked mostaccioli for my in-laws last weekend. They LOVED it. Seriously, never gotten SO many compliments on my cooking. :)

  19. You have to keep doing Difference Makers because 1) YOU are making a difference and 2) you are teaching those kids to make a difference. But, I completely understand how exhausting it is after an already long day!!! You rock!

  20. I hate when computers slowwww down. Its so frustrating!!

That shot of your little neighbor is adorable!!!

You are an amazing teacher, and Brainella is right, an inspiration! Stick to what you love, if you can't love it anymore, then maybe its time to inspire someone else to love the project :)

  21. Hi Mrs. 4444's... Your mom is definately entitled to a "PJ" day and her youthful spirit needs a rest every now and then too! What a gal!

I checked out Divergent Pathways and then headed on over to Parkin's website... Gracious me oh my what a gorgeous collection... I like her art work a lot, I'll have to take some time to look at her illustrations as well. What a gift!

    Thanks for sharing :)

  23. I wish I had cutie pies like that on the loose in my neighborhood.

Sorry about your laptop. I'll say a prayer to the patron saint of laptops, Saint Gavilan of Silicon Valley. (I jest.)

  24. My laptop is doing the same thing. I told my computer guy that I think it has Lupus. It keeps thinking that parts of it are malicious spyware and it attacks it causes huge gaps in it's memory. Oh wait maybe it has dementia, oh, no that is me.

I'll post but it will be later as it also takes me 5 hours to post 3 lines of text. (YOU KNOW I LIE! I have NEVER written JUST 3 lines of text)

  25. slowing laptop - could be many things. Do you reset it often? Are you sure it's not a slow internet (problem I have too often).
Thanks for the link about your mom, I had missed that one.
Cute neighbor kid - it's fun to watch them grow.

  27. Just read your difference makers post. I think it's a great thing that you are doing!

My laptop is sooooo slow. My husband was rolling his eyes at me about it until he was forced to use it the other day and then he started cussing at it. Hoping Santa findds an amazing Black Friday deal on a netbook for me. :)

  31. I hate laptop woes. Maybe Santa will bring an early present?

I'm behind on my reading -- curious about Difference Makers. Going there next.

Really, I'm not a dummy, but I can't for the life of me find a comment button on the post about your Eagle Scout. So I'll just say here that you must be so proud. Congratulations!
