Friday Fragments, Episode #161

It was Back-to-School week in my neck of the woods this week. Of course, I have plenty of fragments to unload, what with all the chaos.

***To those of you who are thrilled to finally be able to pass your brats on to their teachers. THANKS. (But really, I do love them and look forward to a year full of learning and fun. (Oh, and BTW, you're welcome. :)

***Update on my healing students: Brennan is making very good progress in an intensive therapy program at the hospital he's been in since July 29th. He's still not recognizing people or talking, but he is waving hello, throwing peace signs, and high-fiving. That's huge progress, considering his doctors had almost written him off a few weeks ago. The two students who received serious burns via a power line incident are still in the burn unit of Milwaukee Children's Hospital. GW is still in a medically-induced coma and is undergoing various surgeries (That's all I know.) His sister K is no longer in her medically-induced coma and is also facing surgeries. She is going to be doing major therapy to learn to walk again, as doctors will likely have to remove some of her toes. What a way to start 7th grade! (But least she is alive.) Keep the prayers coming!

***I am SO excited! I won a giveaway on the Highball Blog (gear giveaways and tutorials for outdoorsy types) and got the treat of choosing any piece of Prana gear that I wanted! I'm not a big shopper, but believe me, I had a good time in there. This is what I chose:

I love it and anxiously await its delivery. Thank you, Prana and Highball Blog!!!

***Remember my pregnant niece, Nicki, and her sweet, shy husband, whom Kyle and I visited last summer? (Feel free to advise me on the proper grammar/punctuation on that sentence.) She has graduated to "new mommy," and if you haven't already read my post welcoming little Cypher to the world, I encourage you to do so--He is very possibly the cutest baby boy ever.

***I just wrote a very long fragment about what I think of parents who register their children at a new school the day before school starts (or later that week), but then I remembered that I'd like to keep my job, so I deleted it. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that no one who reads this blog needs to be told, but just in case:  If September 1st comes and your kid is still not in school and you wonder when school starts, you need to get your head out of your

***For what it's worth, I have/had a Yahoo account I've been trying to close for a week. I can't make the emails stop, and I can't log back in, because my account's closed. Their "Customer Service" emails lead only to dead ends that are trying my patience. No wonder I never used the account!

***As a member of the One2One Blogging Network, I decided to enter their Bounce It Off Millions Contest on their Facebook wall. All you have to do is submit a decision you'd like help with--What nail polish should I choose? Should I quit my job? Which is better: solids or stripes? You can win prizes like free Bounce Bars and VISA gift cards (No, they didn't make me say this--I volunteered!) and even get your chance to have your question answered by millions. It's super easy to enter, so I went for it and asked a question about whether or not we should get a kitten. Feel free to join me! [YOU DON'T NEED A BLOG TO ENTER YOUR QUESTION!]

It's your time to unload! (Sorry--This linky is for Friday Fragmenters only. Other links will be deleted.)

  3. School and schedules - so what the next event the teachers count down to?
I'll take a look at the one2one thing but I like to ask questions on G+ which I noticed you didn't have fragment on.

  4. I'm to tired to create a list, though I may late tomorrow...

But can I tell you the post I'd like to write? It's about a mom who responded to a note I sent home requesting Email addresses by telling her child, "I don't check my Emails, tell your teacher to call me."

Sure, I'll make 23 phone calls instead of sending one message.

How about if I call you when I would Email you, like around five a.m? How does that work for you mom?

Seriously. She doesn't check her Email. Not, "I don't have access to Email," but "I don't check my Email." Oy. It is 2011, right?

  8. I am glad to know about Brennan progress. It is huge since the last news. And the siblings, I can't imagine what the parents are going through now. My prayers are with them.

And school is a relief to some parents:)

  9. Thanks for the update on those kids in the hospital. Still praying for their recovery and their families. What a difficult time this must be for them.

Wise of you to hold your tongue on the slow parents registering their kids for school, although, maybe even this might be going out on a limb. Be careful!

For what it's worth, I definitely think you should get a kitten! Actually, I think you should get TWO so they can play together and keep each other company. They are so fun and really only need to be watched like a toddler for the first 6 months. They have a calming affect too and as long as Cooper doesn't chase them, I'm sure they'd be happy with you.

  10. Good news about the kids. Thanks for the update.

    Love your outside gear.

Like Karen said, two kittens are good company for each other. And get yourself one of those t shirts that says no outfit is complete without lots of pet hair.

    Brushingly, ann

  12. I feel your pain on school registration. We finally had curriculum night last night (school started three weeks ago and all other curriculum nights were two weeks ago) because people were still registering their kids through Aug 26. They were afraid they'd have to create a new first grade class because of all the new kids. WTH? How can people NOT be aware of this stuff?!

I've been praying for those children. It's so scary. I cannot imagine what their parents are going through.

    Have a lovely weekend!

  13. I am right there with you on the slow parents, but I agree, it was probably best to not say anything. Really, shouldn't your child's school be a priority to a parent??

Prayers for those sweet little ones recovering.

I've missed reading and writing fragments. Maybe now that school is starting I can get back on it! Ha!

  14. lol- like I said in my post today...I think teachers and bus drivers have the hardest job out there!

I know 5 or 6 bus drivers and they always tell me I should be one.

Yeah right! I would probably throttle one of the little monsters!

As far as feeling like a babysitter ...I hear you! I was a Girl Scout leader for 6 years and I felt like one, too!

All I can say is thanks for being a teacher- better you than me. I do much better with the before-school- age crowd...those kids are cute!

    Have a safe holiday weekend!

  15. So glad to hear about the progress brennan is making!! And I hope for continued progress. So sad that these kids have to go through this at such a young age.

Congrats on the new little one!

Have a great and safe Holiday weekend!!

    Big welcome to Cypher!

  18. Congratulations on the beautiful top!

Also, watch your confetti post. It did make me laugh but I always feel so uncomfortable for the mark in that type of gotcha video.

  19. Bless you for teaching and teaching well! Congrats on yyour prize! Good choice. I totally agree with you on the parents who are surprised that school is starting and their child needs to be registered!

  21. That is an adorable babe :) and what a great name. Thanks for linking back to your post, it was just lovely.

I can imagine that you have a lot of things to say that are best written, then deleted LOL

  22. First of all thanks for hosting such a great link party, FF's is one of my more fulfilling posts.

I hate to say it but I only have enough grammar for myself (I'm soooo selfish, not running around like a grammar fairy, hitting people on the head with my grammar wand.) So I will not be able to advise you today. ;-) I'm sure you found someone to help.

I know what you mean about work, I wish I could find a way to be more transparent about my job also. Maybe one day I'll write an anonymous blog along with my present one.

I will definitely keep your students in prayer. Wow! They are going through a lot.

  23. Congrats on back to school week! :)

  24. Brennan's progress is such good news. I know his family is happy with progress.

I hope the brother and sister are able to share their story once in awhile with other kids to warn of the extreme danger of power lines. I am sure they had no idea of the power in those lines, did they?

Congrats on winning the giveaway. You will look great and be comfy in your pick in the pic.

    A cat????

  26. Oh dear - - - I'm late again.

In Indiana if the SECOND WEEK OF AUGUST comes and the parent hasn't enrolled their child in school they need to get their head out of whatever place you referred to. ;-)

  27. so glad the students are doing well.
If I asked a question it would be "should I/we try again" but I feel funny having millions of fb viewers seeing that with my real name.

  28. I was going to try that "Bounce it Off Millions" but didn't want to give them access to my Facebook stuff. My question is . . .

Should I keep trying to play my best against my husband at tennis even though I win all the time and he seems to be getting frustrated and discouraged? what should I do?

He actually wrote a post about this for our blog which I scheduled for Wednesday.
