Sundays in My City

Unknown Mami hosts a weekly photo meme in which bloggers from all over the world post photos of the goings-on in their cities. This week, I'm joining in with a collection of miscellany.

First, some shots from our block party. Know what this is? No, it's not a fish boil kettle.

Here's a hint...

It's chicken booyah! (and it was fantastic!)

We had a great turnout!

Kendall loved this shot; she called it a "classic."

Here's a shot of me (in my new PrAna sweater!) with my sweet Kendall.

The kids had a ball singing karaoke and dancing like crazy.
(I'm sure none of them had to be rocked to sleep that night.)

Next, in the interest of full disclosure,
I'm posting my original, straight-out-of-the-camera shot,
snapped last week of my favorite tree,
pictured frequently here on HPKT.

I hereby confesses to using Paint to erase three elements from the photo in my header:
the power lines and the two ugly, white poles.
I hope you don't think less of me, but it's okay if you do; I had to do it.
I just loved the light in this shot. The sun was starting to set in the east,
and some very dark clouds were threatening the west.
I could hardly wait to get to "my" tree on the way home, because I knew it would look gorgeous.

It's the little things...

And, finally, this little stinker was doing his best to annoy his mother in the Kohls Department Store yesterday.

Kendall, her friend, Grandma 4444, and I shopped for (and found) her Homecoming dress and a few other incidentals. If the dress arrives on time (We had to order it.), I 'll lead with that shot next week!

Stop by Unknown Mami's place for more bits of culture from around the globe.

  3. Your block party and booyah look like winners. I think every spring that we should do that in the summer. Never happened yet.

  5. I love how you captured that little boy hiding from his mom. My sister used to run away in stores. My mom would turn away for half a second and she would be gone. She ended up being on a leash. lol

  7. The classic picture is classic, I love it too. And your tree, it is beautiful no matter how you look at it and I love it more now that it is in full disclosure. And if that is your road home, I would look forward to go out to work everyday!

  8. That Chicken Booyah looks absolutely amazing, I do have to confess that I would put hot sauce in it.

I appreciate the honesty about your picture but since I live in such a beautiful place I KNOW the magnitude of loveliness and I trust that it's just as beautiful where you live. (I don't know if people are challenging that beauty or not) I do love the way the photo was doctored BTw. There were too many things distracting from the view.

That boy already hates shopping, wow!

  11. Oh I loved the Block parties when I was a kid. I wish our neighborhood would do one. People are so closed off these days!

And I LOVE your tree picture!

  13. Sometimes when I comment on blogs using my ipod, they don't make sense. I'm hoping mine made sense to you because now that I re-read it, it doesn't make sense to me, sorry I'm a bit crazy this week. What I meant to say is that when I see your beautiful photos I'm sure they are not photo shopped to be lovely. If people think they are I wonder what rock they came out from because we have the most beautiful country. Anyways. I swear I'm not that crazy. I swear....

  14. That chicken booyah looks so yummy! It looks like everyone in your awesome neighborhood had a great time. How fun! I LOVE your header and would probably just LIKE it if you hadn't purdeed it up. ;)

  15. I really want to try erasing some things from photos, but I never have time to play with photo editing. Everything is straight out of the camera. I'll have to wait until the girls go to school or I get a nanny so that I have more time.
