I was having a very rough day at school. One student had ended up in ISS (in-school suspension), and another (Sean) was almost there. In order to keep him from going "over the edge," I was doing everything I could to help him with a math assignment. The trouble was, he was more interested sulking and staying on the negative course he had put himself on. Corey, too, was having a great deal of difficulty staying focused on a writing assignment, but for different reasons. I had both boys sitting close to me, so that I could attend to them both (Corey in front of me, and Sean next to me.)
"Come on, Sean, you can do this!" I implored. "Just give it a try; it's the same thing you and I worked on last year. At least make an effort." He just sat there.
"I know what you're trying to do, you know," Corey quietly state. I ignored him for the moment; I was afraid to lose focus with Sean.
"Sean, it's just mean, median, and mode; this is simple stuff for you. You've done this before."
"I know what you're trying to do," Corey repeated, a little bit louder. What was he talking about?! I was too busy with Sean to care. "Corey," I said, barely looking at him. "Will you please get to work on your writing."
"You're trying to do what's on your necklace, aren't you?" Corey smiled (I could hear the grin in his voice.) My what??
My hand moved to my necklace. I didn't need to look at it to finally realize what he was talking about.... "Yes, Corey," I looked at him and smiled. "That's what I'm trying to do."

If you'd like a necklace like mine, win a bet with Jen or just go to Kristin's Etsy shop and order one :)
