When Being Negative is Positive

I loaded up on raisins today and am happy to say that I passed my iron test and gave up some of my 0-negative blood today!

I forgot my camera, though, so I was thrilled when the nicest young woman (also a donor) offered to run out to her car and get her cell phone so she could take my photo! (I know, right? What a sweetheart!)

So, here's proof that I walk the walk, Ladies and Gentlemen.

(And no, that's not a funky Star Trek outfit; I just had to leave my arm out for a little while.)

Just look at the wonderful spread they put on us donors--crackers, cheese, veggies, dip, and an egg salad sandwich and warm, fuzzy feelings in exchange for a measly pint of blood?! Such a deal!

I've sent my photo to Manic Mommy for her Sunday, Bloody Sunday feature, celebrating her Got Blood? drive. Stop by tomorrow and wish her good luck, will you?

Better yet, stop by your local American Red Cross and tell them Mrs.4444 and Manic Mommy sent you! :)

  3. Good for you. I've been deferred until February b/c I went to the Dominican Republic last year. Now to work on my anemia so I can donate when I'm eligible again.

And I totally knew that wasn't a Star Trek outfit -- no communicator badge! LOL!

  6. Hubby just passed his 5 gallon mark. I asked him if he got anything special and he said "yep, an extra apple juice box" with a big smile on his face.

  11. My sisters are both B negative and get calls from their local blood bank when B negative is in short supply. Unfortunately I had hepatitis in my 20s so I've been disqualified as a blood donor.

I admire folks who donate blood - and give thanks to you as well! Thank you!

  12. I tried one time to give blood and they couldn't get it to flow through and told me not to bother trying to donate in the future because of that issue. I don't know now if I'd be allowed to donate because of the chemo and radiation I have had -don't know if that affects it or not. But since they told me that about the blood being too thick a long time ago, I've never gone back. But the spread they gave you is making me wish I could go donate -more than I've had to eat a couple days this week -thanks to the lovely diet and whatnot, ya know.

  15. Glad your raisins worked, although the blood people at my bank suggest chocolate covered ones. Something in the chocolte interacts with the iron in the raisins so that it gets absorbed. Who knows, but I'm good with that idea.

Yay to you for giving up that O neg (hey, just like me!) -- although I'm awfully jealous of the spread. Ours is ummm not exactly so nice. AND they don't recycle.

  16. All for a good cause. The snacks even make it worth it.

  17. I have O negative blood too. I always jokingly tell my husband that I am extra special because my blood is universal and rare. Love your blog!

And ALSO, look at the spread you get at your donation place! Yowza!!! I hope all of your readers will also take part in the blood drive! So many graet comments over here! Aren't the people at the blood places some of the nicest people! I think when my kids are all grown I'm gonna get a job there! xo
