Thousand Words Thursday [Warning: Gross Alert]

Guess what this is....

Jen, at Cheaper Than Therapy, hosts a weekly meme called Thousand Words Thursday. Stop by to see "pictures that say a thousand words."

Okay, do you give up?

Did you know that it's not appropriate to flush most unused prescription drugs down the toilet? I was just following my government's suggestion for disposing of prescription drugs in a responsible manner:

1) Mix them with something that will hide the medicine or make it unappealing, such as cat litter or coffee grounds.
2) Place the mixture in a sealed container, such as a plastic bag.
3) Throw the container in your household trash.

The sad thing is that I'm pretty sure an addict to pain killers might actually be willing to dig through the cat poo to get to the drugs. (seriously) That said, the garbage is already on its way to the dump, so that's that.

  1. I have to second that...I think you are supposed to crush them up first...it is so nice of the government to come up with great blogging ideas like this ;-)

  4. Ewwww....

And if the addicts are willing to eat pills covered in feces... they can HAVE them IMO...

  6. Even if the addict doesn't want those drugs he/she can sell them to get what they do want. It is sad, isn't it? I could not tell what it was in the bag in the photo.

  7. I never knew what to do with the darn things! Thanks for the suggestion. I couldn't tell what the photo was so I wasn't too grossed out.

  9. Okay, I was guessing some kind of bread. Guess I was wrong! I think some pharmacies will also take outdated meds, too.

  10. I still have enough of an addict mindset and KNOW too many active addicts to think,"hm, that's not so bad, wonder if there are any GOOD ones in there?" Thank God I am not still using, I tell you! Though I will lay the blame directly at your feet if my backyard neighbors start digging through our cat-litter bags!

Though on second thought, I might get a good laugh out of that...

  13. I agree if someone is addicted to pills they would dig through there and get them out.

  14. Yuck! I was told to flush 'em but I guess I was misinformed, lol

I wonder if you could just take the unused pills to your local pharmacist to dispose of? I'll have to check on that.

Coming over to say hi from WI Bloggers! It's nice to meet you!

  15. As a member of the pharmaaceutical community, you'd be suprised how despirate addicts will get. Just mix it with your normal trash.

Your trash isn't the everyday people look for drugs. Normally hospitals and doctors offices, etc.

The real reason is the sewage and treatment plants. The treatment doesn't completely remove the active molecules. So any run off or stream cn contin an active. Bambi could be on antidepressants.

    "Just shoot me"

    LOL
