All in a Day's Work

My sister, Mary, and I tackled a major project last Saturday; ripping up the 40-year old carpet in my mom's second bedroom/"den." Don't believe it was that old? Does this convince you?

This is one of my favorite photos; it's my sister, Mary, who was kind enough to invite me on this "adventure."

And here's one reason why you should think long and hard before purchasing a cat (especially an adult cat from the Humane Society)...

I won't even get into the mess it was or how long it took or how chapped my hands are now from scrubbing the floor with hot water and Murphy's Oil Soap. Just check out the before and after pics!

The floor still needs work (sanding, staining, etc.) but it's really beautiful. On Saturday, we're tackling the basement. They say that "many hands make light work." If that's the case, we should be done by June.

  10. Wow! What a difference! Beautiful hard wood flooring! That is what we have thru out our house, except in 2 bedrooms. But, eventually I want to rip the carpet out and have the floor show. All the homes in my neighborhood have hard wood floors...some have carpet on top. I love hard wood floors!

  12. Ewwwww! I have this phobia about old carpet. I don't want it to touch my feet! (I have issues with a lot of things touching my feet). I have beige carpet, three boys and a dog.

I NEVER want to have carpet again. It's so gross if you think about it.

What's really gross is when the Kirby Vacuum salesman comes to your house to do a demo. You think your vacuum is cutting it, then they bust out the Kirby and show you all the things YOUR vacuum isn't sucking up. EWWWW!

But you, too, can have a Kirby that is a vacuum/carpet cleaner/spray painter/leaf blower for only $2,2000.

I may need to blog about this as therapy.

Will you come rip up my carpet???

  15. HI Barb!
My kids and I think it looks really nice. The kids are big fans of Clean House. They think you did just as good. They liked the desk and floor.

  16. Love it Barb, and the comments, especially the one about Kirbys! My son (Barb's nephew) sells em and is totally in love with em. He was top seller in Anchorage last year, selling 115! (We won't discuss the economy this year!) But, most of the time he went way lower on price and got a low commission. He won two trips with his little girls. Yeh, that price is ridiculous, no matter how fancy it is! :0

  18. It looks amazing!
Isn't it funny how older people covered that up with carpet? My parents have hard wood in every room and they LOVE carpet. To each his own, I guess : ) I hope the basement goes well for you!

  19. I like carpeting but it does wear out. This reminds me of clearing out my dad's house. His carpeting was 15-20 years old but with all his un-neutered male stray cats that he took in, it smelled bad! The upstairs cats especially really did a number on his carpeting. I had to actually call a company called Pet Pee Pee to come in that specializes in cleaning floors to get the smell out.

  20. Ah, so THAT's where those spots on my wodden floor came from; cat pee! It looks lovely. The floor, not the spots.
