Happy Birthday to Me!!

Me, while reading my email, to my very impressed family:  "Hooray! Qdoba is giving me a free burrito for my birthday!!"

Kyle:  Dang. Now I'll have to get you something else! (Thanks for the birthday laugh, Kyle. I love you :)

Yes, it's that time of year. Today is my birthday. The bad part is that I am now an odd number, and I hate odd numbers, especially the number 47 (though 49 will be worse, I suppose.) Sheesh. Yuck. There's only one way to feel better about this...

For many years, on my birthday, Mom calls my house and leaves a message on the answering machine, singing "Happy Birthday" to me. (I think she just did it one time, out of the blue because I missed her call, but I loved it so much, she's done it almost every year since.) I absolutely love it; it's so sweet and makes my birthday truly special. My "big day" is never complete until I listen to my song.

I dread the birthdays after Mom is gone, so that's why I asked her to let me record her singing to me (cuz I'm just that morbid!) Mom cheerfully agreed!

So, here's Mom's song: Happy Birthday to Me!

And here is an awesome outtake--(Cooper kept crying over Mom's singing.)

Thanks for the present (reading my blog). It's always a treat to have your company :)

  11. Okay... First let me say HaPpY BiRtHdAy! :) I loved your Mom's song, and I needed a smile today!!!

A little humor for the day... Comes from the fact that I downloaded the clip which apparently loaded to the i tunes on my computer... So after the song without warning it went straight into a GodSmack song which left my boys and I looking at each other perplexed wondering how in the world "Happy Birthday" would end with a loud head banging song. We thought you really were mixing it up a bit. :)

I wonder what my DH will think when he downloads new music to his i-pod for his gym workout and "happy birthday" from your Mom is on there. Oh to be the fly on the wall!!! :)

    Have a great day!!!

  27. Happy Birthday! I love you lots! I see birthdays as our own personal National Holidays! Treat it as such. You have graced the world with your presence for 49 years and I for one am grateful. Even if I hate you for looking so awesome.

  28. Happy Happy Birthday to you!

You do look wonderful for your age! I do hope to age gracefully as you do!

I am an odd number now, but soon to turn an even number. This used to bother my 15 yr old to the max when she was a kid, everything had to be in even numbers, what I got at the store, her number for soccer, you name it, it had to be even or she would freak!

  36. Hope you had a very happy birthday, although I don't get why odd numbers upset you--LOL! That's sweet of your mom to call and sing to you every year. I think you will be glad later that you did record her singing; it's these little types of things we miss so much when our parents are gone. I'd say you are being wise and not morbid at all.
