Little Miss Muffet, Me?!

There was a lot of drama on my commute to work this morning. Luckily, Kendall was with me, and she was there to capture it on film...

Okay, I confess, that was a reenactment.  (Kendall and I had a ball making it.) She obviously thought it was pretty funny, but this is serious stuff!  In real life, I am not a squealy-screamy-girly-girl, but what you don't know is that the scenario depicted in the video has happened three times this week on my way to school!  I am not kidding!!  The odd thing is that it happens in the same exact spot, about 5 minutes from my house.  The first time it happened, the spider was tiny, and I was only mildly bothered; I opened the window and let the air suck it out. The second time it happened, the spider was bigger, and I was alone. I pulled the car over and (truthfully now) I don't remember what I did with it (must be the trauma, I guess.)

My reaction to today's spider really made me feel out of my element! I'm just not used to feeling helpless, I guess.  I about lost it--That thing was HUGE, and I just couldn't handle it. I pulled over and insisted that Kendall come over to my side to open the door and maybe find a way to get the danged thing outside.

But we couldn't find it!

A feeling of nauseous dread came over me (where was that moxie when I needed it?!) but since we obviously couldn't look for a spider all morning, Kendall got back in the car and I made it to school without a hyperventilating. (Denial comes in handy, now and then.)

What is with the danged spiders dropping down from the ceiling and hanging out next to my flipping face, taunting me?!  Is this payback for all the spiders I have killed in my lifetime? Is it some type of omen? Or maybe it's just trying to tell me it's time I got my Halloween decorations up?

I can hardly wait to go to school in the morning...

[Update: Spider #4 reared its ugly little head this afternoon, when we were in the bank drive-thru.  It makes me ill to say this---It was a tiny BABY spider.  I don't know a lot about spiders, but I did see Charlotte's web, so I'm pretty sure there about a billion others hiding out, waiting to attack me on my way to school. Greaaat.]

  1. OK, this made me really laugh out loud! Great video, love that I could actually see the big spider dangling there by your head.

  2. Your car must make for a real warm place for spiders to hang out at night.

  3. too funny....they are telling you to either roll up your windows at night or winter it coming and they want in! I hate spiders too especially the big ones! Yikes!

  4. OMG! I almost wrecked the car the other morning when the same thing happened to me. I was trying to drive and find something to squish it with, while keeping an eye on it. It ended up landing on my leg and I smacked it so hard, I am sure I left a hand print on my thigh. Just wanted to kill it quick before he bit my hand I was hitting him with. I have a major spider phobia ever since living in a house trailer. They congregate under those houses and they had invaded mine! Nightmarish!! to say the least.

  5. Happens to me too! We live by the water and the spiders are plentiful. How can a tiny little spider cause brave women like us to panic..I don't know but it happens all the time!

  6. hilarious! and not at all funny. =D

i don't mind spiders here in the uk, because not a single one of them bites. i don't necessarily want to be all cozy with them, but i'm not too bothered, either. after dealing with brown recluses and black widows all my life, this is a welcome change.

  7. Fall and spiders...just seem to go together like bread and butter! I laughed 'till I cried here. Can you say RAID!!! Girl, if they keep gettin' bigger each time, I'd sure spray the car and let it sit overnight. Of course, not all sprays kill all spiders....oy!

God bless ya and have a spiderless day!!!

  9. They didn't tell you about the vegemite spider connection?

    Great video

I think a bee or wasp in the car is worst. That many times you must have a family in the car.

  11. It's hard to work up the courage to look at a spider, much less not have a heart attack when one jumps at you.

  12. The last time we had a spider inside the car my 8 year old announced we would have to buy a new car :-)

The usual car inhabiting spider around these parts is the huntsman, the classic encounter involves pulling down the sun visor behind which it is hiding and having it land in your lap. No, that's never actually happened to me but I often have a moment of apprehension when reaching to block out glare. I have had one the size of my palm run across the dash though. (They're mostly legs, but still.)

  13. So then, you didn't sing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" song to your children when they were young?

  14. I don't hate spiders. I generally have a live and let live attitude with them because they eat all of the other little creepy crawlies. That doesn't mean I want them ON me. The other night, I looked up from my bed and noticed a medium size spider on the ceiling. Not scary big, but big enough that I took note and gave a little "heh" and went back to reading. Later, before I turned out the light, I looked up and didn't see it. Bothered me a little, but not too bad. JUST as I was falling asleep, I felt something crawl on my face. I almost peed myself getting that thing off of me. I keep my eyes on the little buggers now.

Wanted to check back in with you about doing a BlogTrotting tour post. Do you think you could have one ready for next Wednesday?

  17. I had a spiders nest in my car because for a few weeks I kept getting these translucent-ish beige spiders falling down on me. I'm not afraid of spiders, but I would really prefer that they not drop down on me while driving. I pull over, too!!

Love the re-enactment lol It was a hoot.

  18. Gah! I'm not a baby, but a spider catching me off guard and dangling in my face would freak me out, too. I hope you find the root of this!
