Friday Fragments, Episode #128

What a busy week! It's time to let loose with our fragments! Let go of all of the miscellaneous clutter in your mind, and then sit back and follow the fragmented road!

Our middle school will be putting on a musical production of The Wizard of Oz this spring. I'm not being biased when I say that our kids/directors put on incredible shows. The costumes and sets blow people away every year. We have a no-cut policy, so there's always around 200 kids in the shows, which are very, very entertaining and always fun. After the regular shows, the directors raise funds to take a small number of perfomers on the road to 2-3 children's hospitals, where they perform a modified version of the show for young patients and then donate money to the hospitals. This year, they will be having a magazine sale fundraiser to help the cause, so if you happen to need any renewals (or new mags), please hold off until I share details, okay? Thanks.

In case you were wondering, Kendall went back to school today and is doing a great job catching up already. I'm so proud of her. Thanks for the well-wishes!

Thank you, McDonald's for introducing the new Fruit and Maple Oatmeal. I love it! I am so grateful to finally have something guilt-free, healthy and delicious to order when on the run. I'd been avoiding trying the brown-sugar version (thinking you would probably add too much), but today I learned that you put the perfect amount of brown sugar in, and I appreciate that! Of course, I could probably choose something with less than 57 carbs for a meal, but I'm okay with that fact that most of them are "good carbs." :)

Did I ever tell you that I worked at McDonald's, back in the day, and that I once competed in the Northeast Wisconsin/Upper Michigan McDonald's "Decathalon" and came in Third Place? Now, don't get any wild ideas--There was NO running or other exercise involved. It was all about flipping burgers, waiting on customers, cleaning tables, etc. I learned a life lesson through that experience; one I have never forgotten. (One of these days, I'll blog about it.)

I'm really excited about a classroom project that has great potential for making a big impact on global awareness for my students. The trouble is we don't have easy access to similar-aged students in a 3rd world country. If you know anyone who might be interested in helping with this, I would be very grateful.

Okay, I've talked your ear off enough! Now it's your turn....(Friday Fragments posts only, please.) Have a great weekend! (And don't have any bad dreams in which you find yourself chased by flying monkeys.)

  1. McDonalds has a decathalon? Restaurant workers compete? I'm highly entertained by this for some reason. Can spectators come?

Glad to hear Kendall is doing better at least!

  3. My grandparents owned a Burger King franchise - a lot of life lessens came from working there and being a part of it. One of the best ones was "FIFO not FISH" First In First Out not First In Still Here :)

So happy that Kendall is feeling better. My husband finally got out of the house today and it's been a week for him. Ugh.

Oh here's a tip - follow the yellow brick road not the yellow snow.

  8. That oatmeal sounds good, and I don't even like oatmeal much.
LOVE the Wizard of Oz theme! I bet it's a great show. I Love that they go to children's hospital, too. We are big Wizard of Oz fans here.

  11. I worked at McDonald's for 2 weeks when I was in high school. The manager told me to "Get the hell away from the fry machine" and I quit amidst a flurry of tears.

  12. Girl, you've been holdin' back on us!!! All this time and I had no clue that you were a Metalist, woohoo!!!

...and here I earned my college moola gettin' tanned and tootin' my whistle at ornery juvenile swimmers!!! :o)

I'm so glad your girl is up and goin' again, what a stinkin' way to begin the New Year.

  13. I didn't know McDonalds has oatmeal! I'm going to have to look into that. :)

I got the Wizard of Oz on Blu-ray for Christmas -- I'm debating on letting Dominic watch it. I think if he can take Darth Vader he can take the Wicked Witch.

  14. NO!!!! The computer just ate my comment.

Oh, well. It was full of nonsense. The one important thing it said was that you ARE a terrific teacher. If you ever manage to clone yourself, I would like to buy a copy :)

  16. I can connect you to a missionary in Guatemala or a missionary in Tanzania- or both!

I worked at McD's, too! never participated in any competitive events, though.

I haven't tried the McOatmeal- I guess I could in apinch since the calroies aren't too crazy but the sugar is way off the chart for my daily intake, unfortunately. But I do appreciate their attempt at a healthy option- I think I'll stick to an egg and cheese McMuffin though.

I worked at McD's too and LOVED it. My husband tried the oatmeal this week and really liked it. I'll stick with cookies for breakfast.

I can hook you up with an orphanage in Cambodia. Let me know!
