Sundays in My City: Bliss Dance

I should actually call this Sunday in Her City, since I took this photo in Unknown Mami's neck-of-the-woods, San Francisco! Check out Sundays in My City for photos from cities all over the world.

I give you "Bliss Dance," a piece of art created for Burning Man 2010; they disassembled her and moved her to San Francisco for a while.  Isn't she beautiful?

Bliss Dance [from the BurningMan website]
by Marco Cochrane
Bliss Dance is a unique steel sculpture utilizing cutting edge design; an unabashedly breathtaking modern sculpture in structure and balance. She celebrates humanity and shows the feminine beauty, power and strength that emerges when women are safe and free to be themselves. Standing 40 feet tall, she is dancing naked with her eyes closed; a sign that the spirit of the community is healthy and the balance between male and female is present.

I just love her. If you're curious, I highly recommend you check out BlissDance.us to see the artistic process and some incredible photography of the sculpture at Burning Man (Burning Man is a post all its own, one I'm not qualified to write). Bliss Dance will be on display at Treasure Island until October.

  9. That is wonderful photography. As I'm looking at the photo I keep thinking "are there 2 sculptures?" or "does she move?" because the 2 angles you've taken the shots from make it seem as though she is moving. That makes the photos even cooler!

  11. What is she made of? I can't tell if it is some kind of mesh material or if there is just a design on her "skin."

goodness - - - I was so "fragmented" this week I didn't even pull myself together enough to POST on your Friday party.

I'll hope to do better NEXT week.

  13. I'm not sure if I like her or not. I think she is beautiful but couldn't she be beautiful with some clothes on? Guess I'm a bit of a prude! :)

  15. absolutely beautiful. We were invited to burning man once (by my friends BF we didn't know very well) and my husband (although pretty bohemian) was like, I don't think so. I'd love to go just to people watch and art watch. Thanks for the link.
