Our Family Book of Days
I recorded Cooper's passing in Our Family Book of Days today. (It choked me up.) The book was given to me as a gift in 2000. It includes a year's worth of dates with spaces to record important events in a family's life. Here are some events I've recorded over the years:
June 12, 2000 Kyle and Kendall's first day of summer school, in Tinytown!
July 6, 2000 Dad [Mark] takes Kyle, Kendall, and Great Grandma Florence to Uncle George and Aunt Bette's [in lower Michigan] via the ferry across Lake Michigan. Mom stays home to pack for our big move!
December 22, 2001 Cooper arrives!
April 10, 2003 Kendall's 8th birthday and our first time celebrating as a family at our new dining room table (with all ten chairs!)
December 22, 2002 Grandma Florence passed away :(
February 3, 2003 Grandpa Bob has gone to heaven. Our grief is immense.
April 11, 2005 Grandpa C passed away. Our grief is mixed with gratitude; it was a very brief illness, and we got to say goodbye.
March 7, 2007 Kyle starts his first job! "Party Hero" for Ashwaubenon Bowling Lanes
March 24, 2007 Dad finishes up the final cook-off of this year's maple syrup draw (80 gallons of sap, down to 2 gallons of syrup). This was our third year tapping our trees.
June 3, 2009 Kyle becomes an official member of "Camp Nuttin'" [hunting camp]
June 26, 2007 Kyle gets his wisdom teeth out.
June 29, 2007 Kyle gets "dry socket." :( [The "treatment" for which I will never forget.]
February 19, 2012 Opening Night for Kendall, in Aida (the musical). Also her first "real" paycheck! $150!
Defining moments are a part of life. Just thought I'd share a few of my family's notable events. How about yours? If you had to pick a few defining moments in your family, what would they be? Care to share?
I'm sorry to report that I searched on-line for a new, hard copy of Our Family Book of Days but came up empty; I guess it's out-of-print.
