Friday Fragments: Episode #203

Mommy's Idea

For once, I am writing my Friday Fragments intro after the actual post. I'm reminded how wonderful it feels to unload the minutia of one's mind and free it up for the weekend. Thanks for joining me! [To learn more about FF, please click on the tab above.]

~Tonight, I had dinner with some cousins on my dad's side of the family to help plan our first family reunion since we were children (unless, of course, you count funerals, which of course we don't). My mom's side of the family is no stranger to family reunion planning, so I feel pretty comfortable with this simple, afternoon affair. It's going to be fun.

~At the last family funeral on Dad's side of the family, I apologized to one of my cousins for not knowing his name (I had it down to two names but didn't know who was who.) He gestured to the front of the room as he replied, "Well, you can thank the man in the box for that." So sad. He was right, to some degree; I'm glad we're taking steps to get to know one another this summer.

~Last Saturday, I cleaned four kitchen cupboards/cabinets, one closet, and one shower, painted a 1/2 bath and cleaned and sealed the grout in said bathroom.  Mr.4444 announced that I was "puppy nesting," and I cannot not disagree.

~I shared several fragments on Wednesday regarding college visits, a new pasta salad recipe, and how Kyle entertained himself while I was away. If you're interested, you'll find the post here.

~Yes, I'm aware that my header photo depicts a barren tree. In case you're wondering, we do have leaves on our trees here in Wisconsin in June. (Redoing my header is on my long list of to-dos.)

~Still waiting to hear from Google about my application. In a way, I hope they reject me, because if they accept me, my summer will likely get a lot busier, and I like it the way it is for now :)

~Ya know how, when you're in a sauna and some fool says, "Wow--It's really hot in here!" and you want to say, "No shit, Sherlock." but you don't, because that's just rude? That's why I'm not going to talk about the weather in my fragments, because I'm pretty sure we're all in the same sauna. [If you've already talked, in your own fragments, about how hot it's been lately, please pretend you didn't read this, thanks.]

~Puppy-buying is far more complicated than I had imagined it would be! One important thing I've learned is to wait until they are actually awake and moving and showing their personalities before you actually choose. I've changed my mind again (I think) and will reveal our new pup next week when he moves in.

~It appears that our second puppy choice (also still very unclear) may not be joining our family until August. Since I'm a teacher, you can imagine how that sits with me, but it's kind of out of our control. It'll all be good in the end.

~Did I mention we got new carpeting a couple of months ago? (I must have lost my mind.) At least it's already brown in color...

~I just want to take a minute to say that it always makes me smile when I visit other fragmenters and see many of you visiting each other. It makes me feel like a teacher who leaves the classroom and comes to find her students actually working! What a treat. Thanks for making Friday Fragments a great community :)  Consider this a potluck; leave your dish to pass here, please:
