Reflections of a Reformed Hothead?

Today, in the midst of Artie being a bit uncooperative and defiant; slamming doors and swearing he would leave and never return, another student casually observed,

"Not that this is any of my business, but your job must be very stressful!"

I smiled and thanked him for his compassionate observation. I told him that, yes, it could be stressful sometimes, but that I was doing okay. Then I left to see where Artie had headed.

This afternoon, I found this message in an email from said student;

i bet your stressed not that its any of my business but i hope you get a good night sleep tonight and hope the stress goes away.

What kind of amused me was the fact that the student being so sweet has often given me just as much guff as Artie did today (if not more), though not lately...

...could it be he's maturing?

A teacher can dream...

  1. What a lovely thought. Lets believe that you are getting through to him and he is learning.

  2. Oh, I think he's really "getting it" and it's probably because he has a teacher who truly cares for him. Blessings!

  4. Awwww that was so sweet from the concerned student. I wonder if he's trying to apologize for giving you so much grief in the past?

  5. I recall the day that a former student found me at my desk to 'fess up that he was the kid who stole candy out of my desk at recess during the previous school year. I suspected that he had done it. It was great to know he was mature enough to find me and talk about it.

  6. It's always easier to see the shortcomings of others than our own. It was nice though of that student to show some empathy for you.
