Sundays in My City: A Little Slice of the Midwest

Unknown Mami

Our Norwegian exchange student, Maren, is enjoying her time with us.
Recently, Kendall and I took her to Chicago,
where of course we had to visit the SkyDeck.

Even at 103 floors above the street, cell phones had their attention, at one point.

(Yes, I did step out for a second or two; that was good enough for me!haha)

Maren loved being in a big city; she considers herself a city girl at heart.

She also loved Ed Debevics (one of our favorite restaurants).

On Thursday, I drove Kendall and Maren to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Milwaukee.
Maren said that it made her life.

Just in case, yesterday, though, we took her here:

  1. I am hyperventilating just looking at those heights! I could never go on the sky deck. Now, the Mall of America.. I can do!

  3. I think Maren drew a lucky number when she got to stay in Tinytown with you, and get taken to these wonderful sights and experiences in the Midwest.

    You guys rock!

    1. Thanks, but I feel kind of bad, in a way, that she landed here and not a bigger place. We don't do a lot of traveling outside our neighboring states. What we've done so far is more than we usually do in an entire year.haha What I have left to offer her is skiing at Brule, which might make her laugh (considering the mountains from her home) and maybe a waterpark this winter. Oh well...we aren't expected to show her the whole country :) The exchange organization offers her all kinds of trips, though, and Maren's family is coming in June. They plan to stay here a day or two and then head to Florida and a cruise, so she'll get to make those memories, too.

    2. Oh, and Maren said that everything she knew about Wisconsin before coming here came from That Seventies Show, and she still came, so that says something!haha

  4. Oh,goodness, I'd have a panic attack for sure from that height.

Mall of America, think I need to make a visit there for sure!

    Have a lovely week!

    1. I hadn't even realized until this weekend that it's the 2nd largest in the world in terms of acreage but first in number of stores. We only barely tapped into it in the four hours we were there; I guess we'll have to go back! :)

  6. The sky deck is fun as is many places in Chicago. Ask Maren if she watched the previous Batman movie (not the one this summer but a couple of years ago) lots of scenes from Chicago in it.

  7. I've never been in the Sears Tower (yes, I STILL call it that - - - they can't build a skyscraper and give it a NAME and then just change that name on an old dog like me.) I have been up in the John Hancock twice and just LOVED it. (Empire State building too - - - but that's the wrong big city.)

The Mall of America is always a fun stop too.

I don't think I'd worry about "cheating" Maren out of city life. You ARE giving her a new experience. She has city at home, she will return to that - - - but she only has YOU GUYS for a short while here.

Are you or have you taken her to the Packers yet?

    1. Thanks, Keetha. You're absolutely right, and how many kids get to go to a Green Bay PACKERS game?! (Yes, we took her, and she had a terrific time. Heck--If that's ALL she did, she'd be ahead of the game :)

  8. Looks like you all had a fun time. I am not afraid of heights but not sure anyone could get me to stand on a sheet of glass like that. Have a great day!

  10. How fun. I would definitely want to know what and how that sky-deck is made before I went on it. I definitely think it's one of those must-do things so I'm proud of you that you did it. And how cool of you to take them to the concert.

  11. I think I would throw up on the sky deck. Oh man, you just brought back some great memories made at Ed Debevics in LA.
