Friday Fragments: Episode #226
I am currently deliriously blinded by more than hour of trying to learn Algebra 2 so that I could help Maren with her homework; I have nothing in me for a creative or amusing intro. (Sorry about that.) I'm glad you're here. To learn more about Friday Fragments, please click on the tab above.
*I’m in serious need of a professional massage.
*One of my students’ parents is old enough to be his great grandparent. This week, he had a serious health issue. If you’re the praying kind, please send up a prayer for this man, who is a living angel.
*The "I Thought I'd Seen Everything" teacher experiences category got an edit this week when, believe it or not, I had a parent come to help their child serve detention; the parent didn't want the child "to be bored." Seriously?
*My weekend is already packed full. We’re getting our Christmas tree, decorating, baking, and doing some more shopping. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. I’ve decided to take Monday off for an appointment or two and to catch up on work!
*I’m going to take Milo and Steve to their first doggy daycare on Monday, so that I can work in peace and have two tired dogs when it’s all said and done. I’m as excited for me as I am for them.
*Kyle’s coming home this weekend, and his girlfriend Alayna is coming, too, so they can go to the Packers game. I’m excited for them both and happy that Kyle (who’s been sick and working a lot) will have a chance to relax.
Okay, that’s about all I have to unload for now. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Here’s the linky for your fragmented pleasure.

Algebra I can do, geometry is another story! That is the challenge I am… I mean, Brandon is faced with this school year.
ReplyDeleteHoller if you need any help with Algebra 2. THere are some great website that help with homework etc.. My email is anighbert@gmail.com, i'll be moRe than happy To help you.
ReplyDeleteYou are so thoughtful to post the linky. thanks. Gee I wish I could help. I love math. There are excellent clips on youtube of math concepts now. Have fun with your slope intercept form of the equation. I have not met a parabola yet that I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteNow that your fragments are here, I just want to say you are so right about that crazy parent serving detention. That is a terrible lesson to pass along to their child. Gee, someday maybe they could both go to jail together too. Turn your helicopter off!
ReplyDeleteSooooo crazy about the parent serving detention with their child! Can't wait to hear how doggy daycare goes!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the parent sitting in on detention kinda remove the punishment part of detention?
ReplyDeleteI hope that the teacher (or you, if it was you!) didn't let the parent talk, either during detention! And we wonder why kids are the way they are today.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the massage... my back is a mess from all this stress this fall. I think the government should pay on account of the Core Curriculum and all...imagine that! :-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously - so their child wouldn't be bored? Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a great hostess! I really do enjoy visiting your blog.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect weekend....with family and fun! Hope Monday goes well sounds like you need Christmas break to come fast.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy weekend for you. Ours too. Hope you find some time to rest.
ReplyDeleteI loved helicopter parents. Thankfully, where I am now, most parents are too tired from working, living, and raising kids for that kind of nonsense.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I can't resist a note on doggy daycare. Our dogs are not bored. They are watchdogs if they are owned by the wealthy. Or if the poor own a dog they roam the streets and guard the house at night. Day care for a dog? Bah!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is in the eighth grade and I haven't understood his math/algebra homework for the past two years. Thank God for Google.
ReplyDeleteThat does take the cake about the parent showing up to keep her kid from getting bored in detention! There are no words.
I got a massage gift certificate for Valentine's Day and have not used it yet! What is wrong with me/!
A parent showed up at detention? Wow.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a shame detention is so boring. Yeah, that's precious. Hope you get that massage!
ReplyDeleteUh...that parent? Should get SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
ReplyDeleteI stopped to say a prayer for your student's dad.....hope he'll be ok
ReplyDeleteI once sat in class with my son.....but it was because he was caught skipping school and I had threatened him that for every day he skipped school, I would go to class with him the next day. He didn't believe me and I had no choice. The entire time he whispered that I was making a fool of myself. I just smiled and said I don't think I'm the fool because I could care less what these kids think, but you do! I have heard that they won't let you do that now.
I'll be interested to hear how day care goes. Our nephew takes his two boxers to day care and it's a win for everyone!
You are my FAVORITE kind of parent!!! :) Thanks for the prayers...
ReplyDeleteYes, he did. He also offered to give me a "smooch" to make me as "miserable" as I had made his child in detention. (He wasn't feeling well.) Some people are just sick in all kinds of ways...
ReplyDeleteReally! Get that massage, Woman!!!!
ReplyDeleteThankfully, our kids' textbooks have homework help on-line, but the teacher assigned several problems NOT on the site. I am STILL exhausted!
You got that right!
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! It was right in my classroom, and they were the only two with me; it was so awkward. I finally got sick of him entertaining his child and put the kid to work. I also very plainly told him that the idea is to make the student NOT enjoy it. I guess they broke the mold on that parent.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. To be completely honest, I think he wanted to keep ME company.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised....Thanks for coming back, Bill :)
ReplyDeleteslope and intercept I can do, Bill. However, she is past that...it was arithmatic and geometric sequences. Blech
ReplyDeleteI would take you up on that, but I'll need your phone number. I'm hoping Kendall (math brainiac) is available to help this weekend. If not, I would definitely call you. The book (CPM) has on-line homework help for homework problems, but the teacher keeps giving more than the usual, and they're not all there.
ReplyDeleteMaybe his school (like ours) has homework help on-line?
ReplyDeleteI hope doggy day care went well! and enjoy your visit with the kiddos.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think I can have an opinion about parenting because I'm not a parent but I'm fascinated thinking about what kind of childhood the parent might have experienced to think entertaining the child is an appropriate response to detention. Perhaps it was a subconscious decision because the parent is the one who actually needs detention? I'm also not a psychiatrist but that didn't stop me. ha ha
ReplyDeleteBesides the reason for the season-Jesus. I love me some Christmas decorating. I hope we'll see a pic documenting your holiday weekend.
Some parents are just unbelievable! Couldn't you have just told him he couldn't come? Hope your doggies enjoyed the day care--we never used that yet. Sounds like you have a wonderful weekend coming though, hope the Packers win for Kyle!
ReplyDeleteEwww. Sure sounds that way. I'm not a parent myself, and it's been 10 years since I've taught, but I've heard that some parents these days do everything for their kids -- even their homework!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a crazy weekend. Glad my kids are through all that homework stuff. I was never good at that. Enjoy the weekend. Your WI friend
ReplyDeleteDidn't want... the child to be bored???? :::blink blink blink::: Oh, my, my...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. I had to point-blank ask a parent to stop doing her daughter's homework. It was awesome, because due to the wonder of collaborative Google Docs, I could see her re-writer her daughter's story at 10pm. I messaged her right then and there. She stopped.
ReplyDeleteI am not sitting through detention with my child! No way! Lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great, but sad story. At least you busted her!
ReplyDeleteI definitely won't be attending detention with my kids. Lol. I'm hoping they won't ever get it! Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
