I love this photo, because it shows a sense of open-mindedness; a willingness to go beyond follicular (is that a word?) boundaries. On the back of the photo, Mom had written, “Barbie made this snowman all by herself!” It’s evident from my proud face that I was pretty darned pleased with myself over this push-broom doffed, gashed-mouthed pal of mine. With my six older siblings likely at school, my 18-month old sister taking a nap(?) and my youngest sister not yet born, I had my mom to myself! And here she was, taking a photo, when she probably would have preferred to be taking a nap herself.
There are twelve photos of me (by myself) in my collection, and I think that’s a darned good number for a family our size. How many second and third borns (let alone 7th borns) can make that claim? I just called Mom to thank her. She said, “Oh, you’re welcome, Sweetie.” She’ll never really know how much I appreciate the simple snapshots she took so long ago, photos that remind me of carefree days, early accomplishments, and yes; a love of snow.

It's true that you almost never hear a kid dislike the snow. What is wrong with them???
ReplyDeleteHow very sweet you and your broom haired/hatted snowfriend are. I just love your mama, she is one special lady!
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic day and may God richly bless it!!!
I love moments like that!
ReplyDeleteA rather proud little gal for sure. But you didn't tell what happened, next when you plugged it into a socket and screamed "Give my creature LIFE!!!!"
ReplyDeleteSed a give?

I'm bogged down with pictures. Tons of pictures. But then I go and forget to snap more than one at Christmas. I got my middle son which my daughter will say is proof he's my favorite... no, just standing still at the moment I saw my camera and then I put the camera down and no more pics for the day. I love pictures. I even love other people's pictures! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAwe, such a sweet post. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that I took naps and gave you some one on one with Mom! :o) I just love this picture of you!
ReplyDeleteI wondered what was on top of his head - a push broom! That's great!
ReplyDeleteIt's like pulling teeth to get my sister to take photos of her kids, but in the days of regular film and lots of kids, I can see how photos could be few and far between.
Awwww, that's such a sweet post. I love how you talk so positively about your family. I have to say that I do try to make an effort to get pics of the wee ones by themselves, but ... sometimes it's hard!
ReplyDeleteI love this pic. I was so glad when you put it back up! Love the broom hair! Yeh, mom was so busy, I can't imagine where she got the time to do some things, like crochet me that granny square mini dress and hat when I was 17 or 18 and she had 9 kids! And I used to wonder why she would be resting on the couch sometimes when she'd ask me to do the dishes after school. :0
ReplyDeleteI love this photo. I love that it brings back such fond memories.
ReplyDeleteperfect moment in time.
