Friday Fragments, Episode #96

Yea! It's Friday!! You know what that means...Time to purge our minds of the bits and fragments from the week that didn't make it into posts of their own but continue to clutter our brains. Friday Fragmenting is oh, so satisfying. Why not join in this week?  [For the skinny on Friday Fragments and how to play, click here.]

***There's still plenty of time to enter my Gratitude Giveaway, with more than five different prizes, including a personalized birthday song from my mom. It's simple to enter, and right now, your chances of winning are 1 in 11.  Go for it!

***My Favorite Friday Fragmenter this week was Shannon, at The Gypsy Life. The fragment that hooked me was this one--"The talk" with her son about his changing pubescent body.  In this part, her husband (M) is doing the explaining to their son (C):

M: ...One change you will experience is getting hair all over your body.

C: Hair?

M: Yep, all over your body, in places that you don't have hair on even.

C: Will I get hair like you?

M: Yes, just like me.

C: Does that mean I will grow hair up my nose too? Just like you? Because I really don't want hair up my nose!

Priceless.
Shannon, the award is yours this week.

(And let that be a lesson to you, everybody--Do NOT be that guy/girl who has hair growing out of his/her nose. Buy a trimmer before you think you need one! haha)

***Mr.4444 grilled 600 hamburgers and 400 hotdogs on Tuesday at the "Senior Cookout" in Tinytown. It was 88 degrees at the park, with ultra-high humidity. He said that the kids were very appreciative.

***My mom loves the Karen Neuburger socks that I gave her as a gift years ago. That's why I'd love to win another pair to give her for her birthday in June. Not that you'd want to enter The Mom Jen's giveaway of Karen Neuburger socks (and decrease my odds of winning), but if you did, you'd go here.

***Did you know that three newly-hatched hummingbirds weigh about as much as an American dime?  I learned this while Googling Mr.4444's question, "I wonder how big hummingbird eggs are?" and finding How to Enjoy Hummingbirds.

***I found this entry in our local police records amusing (sorry, Mighty Mom):

05/05/2010 12:23 am - Assist EMS - S. August Street Severe Cut to finger while quilting. Transported by EMS to Bellin Hospital. Husband notified.

Who (other than MM, maybe) knew quilting was so dangerous?!

***Okay, I can tolerate the single ad in between posts, but more than one? Yuck!! Don't expect me to return, sorry. I just don't like ads cluttering up a blog.

***I read this note in our Boy Scout Troop newsletter:

We need ice cream pails with lids for booyah sales. Each scout must eat four pails of ice cream by Sept. 30th.

Because I'm just that supportive a parent, I'm going to do my best to help with this.

***Anything fun planned this weekend? We're thinking of going camping! Wish us luck on getting a site this late in the game.

Okay, now it's your turn. Link up your FRIDAY FRAGMENTS post here.  Sorry. Non-FF posts will be deleted (and the offenders will be lashed.)

  1. That's what dads do. They grill. But that many? He deserves an award, or maybe an entry into the Guinness record books.

I don't think I have to worry about cutting myself while quilting. Cooking? That's another matter.

Congratulations to Shannon. That is just plain funny.

Now send me some of those pails of ice cream. I'm always willing to help out a good cause. And if it isn't a good cause, but involves ice cream, I'm still willing to help out. Preferably something involving chocolate.

  4. *snicker snicker snicker* Unfortunately my husband can't use that line someday with Mister Man becuase he's missing hair that Mister Man DOES have.

And those pails? Hey, you don't have to sacrifice. I've got a few around here I can share, including two I discovered while cleaning the garage. :)

  5. I want PAILS of Ice Cream. Finally someone who understands my ice cream portion needs! (well, not needs, exactly! lol)

    The hummingbirds building nests....amazing!

I know what you mean about ads. One between posts is okay, but more than that is too much.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. I don't think I've ever purchased a pail of ice cream! I guess that's probably because I know I have no stop sign when it comes to eating the stuff. LOL

A dime? Really? Wow, that's small.

  14. Aww - the hummingbird factoids are precious! <3 My boy had a homework assignment this week to think of 5 things that make him happy. I'd just put my feeder out earlier and we were getting visitors already ... One of the happy things he chose was "hummingbirds". Awwe!

  15. I wish I got "assignments" like that from boy scouts! I seem to just get headaches.

  19. Way to go Mr.4444! My kids could eat 4 pails by June 30th. And I'm not a big fan of lots of ads either!

  20. I'm with you on the whole ads-everywhere thing. It really de-values the content, I think.

Cutting a finger...I wonder how bad to have transported her to the hospital? Hope they got it reattached, because that's the only way I'd have called 911. Otherwise, I have superglue and band-aids!!
Lemme know if you need some help with that ice cream. It's for a good cause!

  21. I'd be willing to eat Ice Cream for charity! :)

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  22. Thank you!!! I have to admit after careful examining of M's nose that C must have been referring to M's mustache. But that is what he deserved for having THAT conversation in the car with me present! :) Serves him right!! I just know one of these days I'm gonna have to have the "girl" talk with someone one... Just because Karma is gonna come back and bite me. LOL.... I'll bide my time in the mean time and laugh everytime I think of that conversation!!

I love Friday Fragments!!! LOVE IT!!!

  23. Yay Mr. 4444s for grilling that many burgers and dogs. Now I know who to hire for my next BBQ.

I could help you on that ice cream quest...

Have fun camping! My idea of camping is a 5 star hotel with comfy pillows, but I appreciate you outdoorsy types :)

  26. Geeeeez I'm sorry to be so late coming by!!

Actually when I was pregnant with Gatorboy hubby had to take me to ER cuz I'd managed to slice the 1st joint of my left thumb to the bone with my rotary cutter while quilting!!! So no. This story doesn't surprise me much! :-)
