Friday Fragments, Episode #98

You know how during the summer, you go to picnics and celebrations that have TONS of food, and you pile up a little bit of everything on your plate, and even so, your plate overflows with goodness (so much that you still have to go back for a little more later?) Well, my Friday Fragments are like that this week---Because it's summer and I'm so relaxed, I had a nice, big, empty plate and all kinds of "food" to choose from. Finally, I narrowed it down. [For the ins and outs of Friday Fragments, click here.]

This week, I noticed wrinkles near my eyes, for the first time (I know, I'm late. haha.)  Not sure how I feel about them yet. Funny, because I can honestly say that I have never, ever noticed anyone else's wrinkles!

***
Fantastic post here, called Are you 25 or Older? Time to Grow up!  If you are over 25 and see yourself in these behaviors, it's never too late!

***

Last week, in my FF, I ranted about drive-by bloggers who just stop long enough to link up a random (not FF) post and then leave. Wouldn't you know it? Two bloggers I have never met went ahead and linked up (obviously, without reading the post.)   I responded to the second one by first leaving a sincere comment on her post, and then writing, "Thank you for stopping by HPKT to link up today. In the future, though, I'd appreciate it if you actually read the post." I felt like such a beotch, but come on!

Holy cow! Kristin (The Goat) offered up several winning fragments last week. I highly recommend you poke around over there. One of them was about The Most Harmful Drinks in America. Some of the info was the no-brainer type, but I had no idea that some of those drinks have more than 800 calories!! The article also gives sugar equivalents. For example, a Sobe Green Tea has the sugar equivalent of a half of a cherry pie!  Kristin also had a really great Facebook fragment, as well as a link to one of The Pioneer Woman's always-moving, posts. Kristin, you are hands-down my Favorite Friday Fragment this week. Congratulations!

WooHoo!! I won the Karen Neuberger socks from The Mom Jen!!! You should stop by some time; she has tons of giveaways all the time.

Kyle came downstairs one morning last week and said that he had a wonderful dream in which he got to see and hug Grandpa 4444 again. He said it felt like it lasted about five minute. So cool...

I loved this comment last week, from Caution, on one of my camping posts:

I camp because I am an amazingly good sport. Last weekend, while I was counting the hours until we came home and showered, Keith saw a little Shasta camper and said, "If we didn't have kids, we'd probably have something like that." I said, "If we didn't have kids, I'd be in a hotel." End of discussion.

Thanks for the LOL, Caution :)

Remember clackers? If you missed When Bruises Are Fun (a quick video I posted), you should check it out for a laugh down Memory Lane.

WOW! I decided to try Blogger in Draft's template designer and gave Mrs.4444 Cooks a makeover in less than five minutes! It looks amazing.  If you don't believe me, check out Summer's Harvest Breakfast.

  1. I love that you called out the linker. People should READ what they are linking to!

  2. Shell, it had to be done. It kind of scared me to be so direct with someone I don't even know, but that's how I roll IRL, so I couldn't contain myself any longer. Thanks for your support :)

  3. Oh, Caution, I am with you girl!!! I had the boat conversation with my husband that went similarly... Thank you Mrs 4444 for bring that to our attention I needed a great laugh tonight!!!!

  4. You know I commend you for calling those bloggers out! I have noticed that happening and I was like WTH?? They should read what they are linking up to, who wouldn't?

I love FF's I look forward to them every week!

  5. Don't mention the wrinkles! Let's just say someone is a bit older this Friday ;)
LOVE the "if you are over 25" thing...living near a military base, you see a lot of strange behaviors that would fall on that list!
Good for you for calling out the random blogger! I have just realized I've been linking my blog and not the actual post, so people that look after Friday may get something else...I promise it was not intentional and will not happen again. I would never link without a FF post though.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  6. Thank You Thank You! I'm so excited to be the Favorite Fragmenter of the week :) I'm honored!!

Congrats on winning the socks - I know you are thrilled. Karen Neuberger has some great stuff.

Oh goodness, that comment from Caution was hysterical!

  7. I agree, nice job on the drive-by linkers! I wish there was some way to talk to/retaliate to all those wierd spam comments with naughty links I seem to end up with!! Grr...
LOVE the "Time to grow up" link. I guess I'd better start on my Thank You cards!

  8. Caution is always sooo witty!

    Sorry about the wrinkles. I've had a few for a while now b/c I'm a sun-lover!

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

  9. Welcome to the wrinkles, Mrs. 4444's!! It's not a terrible place to be. The age/sun spots though? That's another story.

I've been doing the same thing Jamie has and linking my general address. I 'll do better next week, too!

  10. Oh, I had quite a few clacker-related injuries. They really should have banned those things along with the slap bracelets.

Interesting list of "adult behaviors." I just can't get on board with the heels. I'm not coordinated enough for that!

  11. Whhooo hoo! I finally remembered to save my fragments for today and to make my first official FF post! Hope its the start of many, many more to come.

  12. I just want to say thank you for not noticing wrinkles on people. That made my day :)

  13. I always read all of your posts in their entirety when I comment : )
I don't think you were $itchy at all to that person. I always leave a comment for people when I link something. Except for this one blogger who drives me crazy. I don't comment at her page because I don't like her that much and I can't think of anything nice to say. Does that make me a bad person?

  14. You have requested repeatedly that people not do the lame link-up. You aren't a B for calling a spade a spade. :)

You know, I read that piece about the drinks...I haven't gone to Starbucks since! Knowledge is power.

  15. Good for you calling out the rogue linkers - I don't do link-ups but my pet peeve is people who stop by and in the comments on a post say "Hi I'm MomBloggerInNeedOfFollowers am now following you please follow me back" without you just know ever reading your post or ever intending to visit your blog ever again! Caution is one of my favorite bloggers, reading her FF posts made me decide I had to come over and meet you and join in the fun!

Ah, wrinkles, yes I have plenty of those!

  16. Wrinkles are earned. Does your husband have a few wrinkles yet?
I am so glad you won the Karen Neuberger socks. You yourself are so generous and it rocks my socks that you won socks!! I received the trumpet vine seeds, am getting two big pots today when I go out and will plant some in them, and also will plant some in the back yard too. Thank you and thank your mom too.

  17. Love Kyle's dream. That's awesome.

Love the new Cooks look, too. Very warm but clean.

  18. I have to say that I really don't mind at all when people just link tot their blogs, instead of direct linking to their FF posts; it helps me catch up when I go to read FF, because all of your posts are there, instead of just one :)

And it's not that I insist on people reading ALL of a post, but when someone does that (and I don't know them and they don't comment at all) it's pretty clear that they're just here to self-promote. I agree, too--It's not good form to visit someone and TELL them to return the favor; that goes without saying.

Okay, so I guess it's safe to say if she comes to beat me up, you guys will have my back! :)

So, should we have another meeting soon? (Caution Fan Club!!heehee)

  19. I am so happy to link up here. Some great blogs to hop. And I actually have TIME to do so today -- whoohoo!! :)

I am not sure just how I found your blog -- maybe via Sheila at Ma Vie Folle? I like it here!

And the sugar in half a cherry pie?? I had no idea. I don' t imbibe that anyway. But I imagine my lemonade is high in sugar.

Eye wrinkles? I have me some of those, well and happily earned.

    xo

  20. I've found myself deleting comments from people who are obviously just promoting their blog.

Karen Neuberger = SOFT! My dd had KN bedding a while back. It was heavenly!

I had a dream about being with my NaNa who passed away. I woke up truly believing that I had been with her for those minutes, that our souls had embraced. It was such a comforting feeling.

  21. Yeah I HATE it when people don't follow the rules of the game. I had a little linky up on Wednesday and I had to delete half of them for not following my instructions! I guess I am a beatch too!

I did my new blog with the new blogger in draft stuff... so so simple t use. Your blog looks great by the way!

  24. I think it is hilarious that you called out that linker! Good for you :)
Thought I'd add that I was participating in your Friday Fragments for a while and then stopped because I was getting LAZY! I have you in my google reader and read your blog regularly though. Hopefully one of these days I'll start again!

  26. LOL "If we didn't have kids I'd be in a hotel!" Amen, sister!

  27. Have been reading everyone else's Friday Fragments and decided it's about time to jump in. I love your blantent honesty. I also hate camping, but will be a sport if I must. I also know about Eagle Scouts and the gray hairs I gained while they both got their projects signed and sealed within 24 hours of turning 18!

I will try to get a post in before the end of the day. Thanks for hosting this. It's fun to read all of the rants and raves!

  28. Caution's comment is hilarious! We drove by a camping park yesterday full of camping trailers parked 10 feet apart, loads of people. I said to Hubby, "That's not my idea of camping."

"What IS your idea of camping?" he asked.

    "A hotel," I told him. ;-)

  29. I love the Blogger template designer. I'm off to check out your new layout.

  30. I learned a new word today it is "blog slapping" And yes I'm sure that's what you did and we all have your back.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I swear that if I ever meet Mr. Linky in person, I'm going to slap him! When my logo is clicked, I get the message that the page is not available. Yet, when I click on my url address on that page, it takes me to my post.

I initially labeled my post "Fragmented Fridays" before I realized what an idiot I am. I changed my title to reflect your same title, but it still shows the idiot version. Should I re-link with the "correct" url?

    Confused...
