Yesterday, while home alone and cleaning the basement, I SCREAMED when a dead mouse fell out of a box of junk, as I was taking it down from a shelf. Now, in my defense, I had just observed a different mouse (which had fallen into the basement well window) jump all over the place for something like two hours, pawing all over the window in an apparent desperate attempt to join me. (Yeah, I'm slow, so it took me two hours to realize he wasn't trying to get into the basement but was actually trying to get the heck out of the window well.) So, yes (as a result of a little Facebook poll I conducted), I chose to help him get out and placed a piece of wood into the the well, so that the mouse could climb out.
Shortly after the dead-mouse-in-the-basement incident, I SCREAMED again (and curled my arms into a fetal position (it was quickly pointed out to me), when Kyle appeared out of nowhere in the basement (I had been home alone for hours.) Yes, he enjoyed it very much.
What's your freak-out creature? Mice? Snakes? Roaches? Children?
My wife.
ReplyDeleteAny bug...especially when it's in my house. On our last day of vacation I was just about to get in the shower when a centipede wriggled across the floor. By the time Hubby got to it it was gone. You know what I dreamed about that night...
ReplyDeleteI love Matty's answer! LOL
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's bugs. I hate summer for that reason!
Leeches. Especially when they've come in under the front door and are questing across the kitchen floor looking for BLOOOOOOOD! Ugh. When that happens I spend the next several hours not wanting to put my feet on the floor.
ReplyDeleteUgh, that gave me chills.
ReplyDeleteMy freak out creatures are snakes, mice, and teenagers.
Thanks for starting my day off with a laugh. Loved the story. What creeps me out more than anything else are worms. Yep, earthworms! I work with wildlife and exotice everyday so mice, snakes, and rats are part of my everyday life. But you should see me dodging the earthworms after a rain, scared to death!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate most bugs, especially the ones that can bite. They find me, and then they feast on me.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw a spider on the bathroom floor. I grabbed a tissue and as I squished it, it had a gazillion babies that spread in all directions. Arrrggghhhh!!! I quickly grabbed more tissues, and I think I got them all, but can't be sure....
bugs are ok with me. i'm gonna have to say feet. for some really weird reason, i don't like feet. i LOVE feet to walk, but i don't like to touch other people's feet. especially when people put their feet up on the dash on the windshield or out the window. that is one of my biggest pet peeves. baby feet, on the other hand, i have no problem. i'm just odd like that.
ReplyDeleteSpiders. I've gotten much better since having kids. But the big icky ones still get me and give me serious heeby jeebies.
ReplyDelete@Mimbles - LEECHES CRAWL ACROSS YOUR FLOOR???? WTF? Yeah, my feet would be elevated 24/7. It's bad enough some big boogie man monster lives under my bed - yes, at 43 I still hot step my way into bed and NEVER leave any part of my body dangling over the edge. EVER. I even have my sleep-self trained not to dangle.
ReplyDeleteMy true freak-out entity is a roach. I scream like a little girl. I can't even kill them because the CRUNCH and it grosses me out. Imagine my little hell when the house next door was treated and all of their little friends invaded MY house. Fortunately that didn't last very long, but I was in constant scream/freak-out mode while we were getting rid of them.
@qandlequeen :-) See, Australia really does have the most terrifying wildlife! It only happens when we have a very long period of very wet weather, there's a creek down behind our house but it's beyond me what possesses the little buggers to make the trek all the way up the yard and round to the front door. We keep a big container of salt handy at all times ;-)
ReplyDeleteHere in the desert...hands down..."scorpions". They make my spine shiver. They are so ugly and they sting!
ReplyDeleteSPIDERS!
ReplyDeleteMICE, definitely mice! They're totally terrifying!
ReplyDeleteSpiders; especially when I have nothing to kill them with and they have caught me off guard.
ReplyDeleteRoaches give me the heebie jeebies! And Snakes aren't my favorite either. It's safe to say that anything creepy or crawly is no friend of mine!
Crickets! And they are out and about now in Texas... ICK!
ReplyDeleteMr. B... it's his life's ambition to scare the crap out of me.
ReplyDeleteSpiders!
ReplyDeleteShudder.
ReplyDeleteI love animals, but if a possum gets near my house, I will beat it to death with a shovel.
Nasty things.
Gads, these stories are creeping me out! Leeches sliding under the door, spiders busting out all over, roaches crunching, bleecch! Let's all say it together,
ReplyDelete"There will be absolutely NO dreaming about this tonight!"
There. Now, we're safe.
The last time I screamed and jumped up and down was just the other day when a string from my shirt touched my arm. (!!!) too funny.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I screamed because of an animal was years ago when we were unpacking my grandmother's things that had been placed in my Mom's garage. I pulled out some kitchen ware when I saw this pink soft thing that I thought was one of those stress balls - when I went to grab it I found out that it was actually a baby opossum. I had the willies for days.
Usually I'm not much of a scaredy cat, but if I get surprised I will scream.
A mouse would definitely do it for me. *shudder* First they scare you...then they are slightly cute so you look at them.....then you think of diseases and they are scary again.
ReplyDeleteSpiders and bugs! I am creeeped out just reading the comments! LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, the baby opossum was alive. It made sense why the momma opossum had been so angry the previous night - she'd lost her baby!
ReplyDeleteMice don't normally scare me -unless they surprise me and then, it is the surprise aspect rather than being afraid of the mouse. Spiders I DO NOT like nor do I like most any kind of bugs. But the things that scare the living daylights out of me? Snakes and bats!
ReplyDeleteYears ago, while shopping one day in one of those old-time 5&10 cent type store smaller pre-cursor of Walmart ya know -my ex-husband snuck up behind me and threw a rubber green snake on me. I jumped, screamed, shrieked and shook all over for a few minutes till I realized it was a fake but the staff probably thought they would need to hear "Clean-up in aisle 3" or something like that.
As a child I hated spiders but nowadays unless they are really big and jump I can handle them. As you know we have had our run ins recently with scorpions but I don't mind them that much and can handle snakes also. What I absolutely cannot stand is cockroaches. They are just horrible!
ReplyDeleteMine is spiders, especially the big barn spiders!
ReplyDeleteI am so there with you...mice and RATS. Ugh, I can barely write the word. Love the pic with this post.
ReplyDeleteAll of the above! LOL I freaked out yesterday when I walked through a spider web. Ewww!
ReplyDeleteSnakes. Most definately snakes. I won't even walk past them in a pet store.
ReplyDeleteHope your heart beat has returned to a normal pace after those scares!
I'd be eeeeking there along with you! Mice to wig me out, mainly just because I think they are nasty little creatures.
ReplyDeleteLEECHES crawling across the floor? Oh I'd be heading for high ground.
Scorpions freak me out, and we've found a couple in the house since moving to Texas.
Snakes are terrifying to me. There is emnity between this woman and any serpent!
SNAKES! Like I seriously have a phobia and need to go to therapy. If I found one in my house I would move out and I'm not even kidding.
