Friday Fragments, Episode #115

I'm so happy it's Friday!!! I always look forward to unloading the random bits and pieces from my week that were too small to be stand-alone posts but too good to let go. It's the easiest, yet most satisfying post to write. I'm glad you joined me!

***

My heart is lighter tonight, having read so many encouraging, guilt-relieving responses to my What to Do post from Monday. Thank you so much; I can't tell you what a relief it was to read those. From now on, I'm going to remember the "100 Years From Now" sentiment and keep blogging in it's place.

***

There was some drama today at the high school; it had to be evacuated, and many students left their backpacks (and cellphones!) in the building. There are a lot of sad students at home tonight twiddling their thumbs!

***

My Favorite Friday Fragmenter last week was Unknown Mami, who wrote about one of the joys of having a preschooler at home:

She also claps for me when I go to the bathroom. She says, “Yay, Mama go caca!” It’s nice to have someone rooting for me and my bowels.

Thanks for the chuckle, U.M.!  Enjoy your award!

***

Seen on a local gas pump:

"Drive away without paying for gas in Wisconsin and you can lose your driver's license!"

Really? Do they think people who steal gas actually care if they have driver's licenses or not?  Instead, why not say, "Drive away without paying for gas in Wisconsin and lose your crack pipe!"  or "Drive away without paying for gas in Wisconsin, and you will be forced to floss your teeth."

***

A wonderful parenting moment...On the ride home after school today, Kendall sincerely said, "One of the best things you ever did for me when I was growing up is buy me fun candy. You know--stuff like lip gloss shaped like ice cream cones, 'toothpaste' candy, suckers shaped like paint brushes that you could stick in a little bucket full of colored sugar...creative stuff like that."  Well, then. I guess my work is done here.

That's it for me! Now it's your turn to unload the bits and pieces from your week and share them with the rest of us.  (Sorry--random posts will be deleted.) HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

  1. can't floss if you don't have any teeth or none next to each other.
You sorta left us hanging about the school emergency - what happened?
You don't teach at the high school - right?
Well I need to get some fragments together and throw them into the game.

  2. "Drive away without paying for gas in Wisconsin and you can lose your driver's license!"

It should be "Drive away without paying for gas in Wisconsin and we will fill your ride with hairy spiders every day for a year!"

  3. Love your fragments this week! I laughed numerous times as did Mr. Ski as I read them to him! :)

I haven't yet prepared my fragments, I'm not nearly as blog savvy as you ladies or maybe it's because I'm a procrastinator and I will need something to do on my lunch break! :)

Regardless, I love reading your blog...you're awesome! Thanks for hosting :)

  5. I never buy the "fun candy"... I always tell my kids it's bad for them. I may need to think about changing my perspective. I had no idea that stuff could make such a lasting impression!

  10. TGIF! Your candy comment reminds me of a story my former FIL used to tell about a family beach vacation. Apparently, they camped right on the beach, as in open the door and there's the ocean, but when asked about her favorite part, my former SIL said it was that the ice cream man came every day...this still bothers him!

  11. I agree with your Fragment award--Unknown Mami's fragments were funny last week.

  12. I just love your sense of humor! In my haitus, I missed your former post about "What to Do." I concur with many of your loyal supporters about hanging in there. Just think of all of the wannabee's that are inspired by you, yet are too shy to comment. One day, they will jump in, too!

    I think you are awesome!

  13. I too enjoyed Unknown Mami's share about Put Pie's cheering her on. It is funny the importance our kids place on some things we do for them. My older daughter is still thanking me for the spaghetti dinners every Sunday!

  14. I'm not sure which of YOUR fragments is my fave. I'm pretty fond of the sad high school students twiddling their thumbs AND do drivers who don't pay for gas care of they don't have a license. I think I'll give you a fave fragment award from me! Okay, I'll never get around to making one. Just imagine it.

I'm just about done with blogging, too. Down to three times a week and finding that to be a pressure. Decisions. Decisions.

  15. I can't imagine my 13 yr old NOT having her phone for the night. Hahahahaha. Those HS probably didn't know what to do!

    Hope the drama ended ok.

  16. They have those "No Pay, No License" stickers on the pumps here, too. My guess was its likely they are already suspended. Also, the photo on the sticker was stupid.

Hooray for good moms and candy! I guess you ARE the best!!!

  17. Oh, you make me laugh! What a great mom you are for buying "fun candy"! :D
They have those signs on the gas pumps here, too. I've always wondered about it!

  19. It's funny the little things we remember from our childhood.

You know, about a month ago I was contemplating quitting blogging. I wasn't sure I had anything useful to share. I realized that blogging isn't an everyday thing for me, but it's about a community of people that I've discovered and enjoy. I don't want that conversation to disappear. Not only that, but I get to share some of the crazy things about life that everyone endures. It's a form of companionship. :) I would miss your compaionship!

  20. LOL Kids are so funny! Love that your daughter thanked you for buying her candy.

    Unknown Mami's daughter is hilarious.

  21. Well, so glad to hear you did right by Kendall and her candy needs. You should be very proud.

Thank you for my award. Perhaps I will hang it in the bathroom, so that every time Put Pie cheers for me I can look at it with pride.

  22. Unknown Mami's daughter is hilarious! The comment about the candy made me teary..you are going to make a fabulous grandma one day. I love picking out the fun stuff for the kids. I even eat Happy Meals so I can give them the toys(and they better stop talking about messing with my Happy Meals)! I cannot imagine how annoying those kids must have been at home with no cell phones. I hope it was a false alarm..

  23. It just goes to show you it's the little things that count!

I just wanted to tell ya'll I've been in Tx. with my fam. I lost my Daddy this week and have gone MIA.

You have a beautiful weekend sweetie!!! :o)

  24. Wait. Just wait. All I have to do as a mom is buy fun candy for my kids? How come no one told me? ;-) What a sweet moment with Kendall!

  25. Sorry, not sure why my link posted twice!

  26. The emergency was a broken gas line! I was a very uncomfortable couple of hours for me, especially in light of what happened in California in September!

  27. Enjoyed your fragments, brought several smiles to my face. Blessings for a great week-end!

  28. Hmmm, the candy Mom, huh?

My youngest said I rocked as a mom because I never put raisins where the chocolate chips should be. High praise indeed.

  29. If it makes that much of a difference maybe I should be buying my daughter fun candy.

So how do you do it? Work full-time and still find time for blogging and commenting? You rock. Teach me your ways. :)
