Just Checking In

It got under my skin. It wasn't visible to the naked eye, but it hurt.

I tried to ignore it, but it kept nagging at me.

Danged sliver....

Sometimes, two heads are better than one.

But not always. Mr.4444's cousin Claudine and her mom Sandy were also unsuccessful at getting rid of that stubborn interloper.

For the record, Claudine does not wear glasses; those are her dad's. (You're welcome, Claudine :)

Finally, with youthful persistence, Kendall hit pay dirt (or pay wicker, as it were). [What kind of expression is that?! "As it were" ? Hm.]

Anyway, other than the sliver, we had a ball last night with Claudine, her husband Rick, her parents, their little boy Jack, and Grandma 4444 at Claudine's and Rick's house. It's been years since we've gotten together, and Claudine suggested we stop saying, "One of these days" and just get to it.  We're so glad we did.

Around the kitchen table, we re-told story after story from back in the day and laughed and laughed and laughed. At one point, the men (in another room) thought we womenfolk might have lost our minds. Seven-year-old Jack also provided amusement; he is quite a charmer.

I haven't even mentioned the wonderful meal we shared, too; Claudine is an adventurous, talented, overly- modest cook. Have you ever eaten cheese with truffles in it? Omg. Spanish almonds? Wow. And that was just the appetizers.  The comfort food and family affection was salve to our wounded hearts.

Although we had never been to Claudine and Rick's house, we knew they had two (aging) golden retrievers and that it might tough to be around them (given our recent loss) but I'm happy to say we were wrong; it's easy to receive love when it's given so freely and by sweeties like these:

In addition to thanking Claudine, Rick and their family, I want to take this time to thank you (so much!) for your friendship, love and support this week. It's been really appreciated.

Here's to friends--the furry and otherwise.
